The Log House - Cumnock

Surrounded by 6,500 acres of beautiful moorland and within a Site of Special Scientific Interest, this unique log cabin can comfortably sleep 20 people across nine bedrooms. With its spectacular location, this property has been constructed to a Norwegian design and is a spacious retreat for large groups of friends or family. Guests looking to relax and recharge will be in their element, with fabulous walks, outdoor activities and varied wildlife on the doorstep.

The property consists of two buildings which have been joined together to create a large and comfortable holiday home on one level. It’s full of character and charm, with colourful decor and design touches which complement the traditional cosy cabin feel. Comfortable furniture can be found in the many social spaces, offering plenty of opportunities for guests to interact or find a quiet space to themselves.

The central living accommodation is situated in the main wing of the house. The well-equipped kitchen is a welcoming space for the keen chefs in your group to put their culinary skills to the test, preparing a meal for everyone after a busy day. Guests can gather around the main table in the dining room to enjoy a bite to eat or even just a catch up over a morning cuppa. An open fire is at the heart of the large sitting room, which is an ideal space for entertaining or simply enjoying a wee dram and good conversation into the early hours. Within this wing are four of the bedrooms, two doubles (one with its own en-suite), a twin, and a family room with bunks and a single bed. As you head into the next wing of the cabin, a second sitting room provides a cosy space for guests who fancy snuggling up with their favourite film. A further two double bedrooms, two twins and one family room complete the spacious accommodation, ensuring everyone has a comfortable place to rest and recharge.

The property is located within the picturesque Garpel Estate, which consists of a mixture of different landscapes. It’s also a haven for birds and other wildlife, making the private garden of the cabin a perfect spot to take a seat and see what you might capture on your camera. A large decked area provides a super space to gather everyone together to enjoy a little al fresco dining while you soak up those wonderful views.

• There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £500 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £70. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

As this is such a fantastic rural area of Scotland, it's ideal for those looking to step back from the modern world and get back to nature. Pull on your walking boots and head out on one of the many nearby trails which pass your front door. They include the River Ayr Way, where it's quite possible you'll spot an array of wildlife including black grouse, hen harriers and short-eared owls. Keep your camera handy! The town of Mauchline (7 miles) and the village of Muirkirk (10 miles) both have a variety of shops for picking up supplies, while the former has a traditional pub and restaurant as well. For a relaxing day on the coast, head 16 miles west where you'll find the many fabulous sandy beaches of Ayrshire. Keen golfers are spoilt for choice in this area, with the championship courses of Troon and Prestwick both within 20 miles of the cabin. Guests of all ages will love exploring the woods, beaches and parkland at the National Trust for Scotland's magnificent Culzean Castle, which is a 25-mile drive away. Perched on the cliffs, it's a super day out for all the family with 40 buildings and secret follies to be discovered along the way.
