This fascinating and unique house brings together modern design, country detail, and the stunning surroundings of the Glen Estate. Built in the 1850s, the house is an impressive example of Scots Baronial style, with turreted walls and gables, nestled in 5,000 acres of rolling park and moorland amid the atmospheric Scottish Borders.

From the centuries-old stone walls that surround the gardens to the flagged floors and vaulted ceilings, this property is a romantic hideaway that will make you feel like you’re living in a fairy tale.

Inside, the rooms have been elegantly and lovingly designed. The first stop is the open-plan living space, with a seating and dining area perfect for socialising together at the end of a day’s exploring. This room opens out via a pair of French doors to a cobbled courtyard and is located next to the kitchen, which is an unusual space with an exposed curved brick ceiling.

Head upstairs to find a lovely gallery space, a perfect pitstop to catch your breath or read some Scottish history. Continue through into your bedrooms: a four-poster double is your master, complete with en-suite shower room, and a sweet twin also has its own bathroom, so there’ll be no fighting in the mornings.

Outside, experience the wonders that the Scottish Borders has to offer, all within the grounds of the estate. Beside the property, a shared cobbled courtyard and garden overlooking the sweeping lawns and with woodland habitats and bubbling streams are just a walk away.

You can lose yourself in the acres of the Glen Estate grounds themselves. Hills, woodland, moorland and even lochs, as well as romantic gardens and manicured areas, will give you the sensation of strolling around a period drama. Discover the fascinating history of Traquair, once a palace of William I of Scotland and thereafter resided in by many kings and famous figures. The stuck gates — or “Steekit Yetts” — are legendary for keeping out unwanted visitors.

Venture out into the countryside to discover the breath-taking pursuits of the Borders. Walk, ride, cycle, climb, discover the waterways and lochs, try your hand at water sports and fishing — it's all at your feet in the area of Peebleshire. 4 miles away is the small town of Innerleithen, where you can explore the local shops and eateries amid the trails and wildlife of the Borders.

Other attractions close by include Kailzie Gardens, 7 miles away, a beautiful walled garden set around a burn. The town of Peebles, a beautiful little place on the banks of the River Tweed, offers idyllic surroundings for a stroll and a shop, or head to the historic and cultural hub of Edinburgh, 30 miles away on the coast of the Firth of Forth.

Loved the location. Absolutely incredible estate to walk around with jaw dropping views. It's a lovely property and well kitted out, but we were disappointed with th general cleanliness. Huge cobwebs hanging around, thick dust in places and the kitchen felt greasy and sticky. Hasn't had a deep clean for a while. The road to get to the property is bRead moreumpy, and whilst it says EV charging available.there is only one which is dangling out of one of the properties windows which was constantly in use. Hide

We had a fantastic holiday at the Old Larder. Unlike any other holiday I've been on, we had miles of private grounds to explore which included farming land, lochs, rivers, hills, woodland, old buildings, bridges and other man-made structures. We saw many new lambs and calves with their mum's, deer, a red squirrel, wildfowl and I'm sure if we didn'tRead more have noisy young children we'd have seen even more. The cottage was lovely, with the log burning fire and original features. Fab time. Hide

Superb location with many interesting places to visit within easy reach. Lovely walks on the estate which in itself was quite unique. Very friendly and warm welcome from the host and staff. Only downside was the lack of comfortable seating and the property was in shade all day. The stone floors downstairs and stone staircase could be a problem for Read moresome but the fourposter bed in the main bedroom was brilliant. Hide
