Escape the daily grind with this romantic retreat overlooking Loch Ewe. Situated in the grounds of Pool House, this idyllic refuge is the perfect base to enjoy walking, cycling, fishing, golf and watersports. Home to beautiful mountains, hills, lochs and waterfalls, the road to this property is listed as one of the top ten most scenic drives in the world. Once here, the tastefully decorated boathouse offers spacious and open-plan accommodation complete with a cosy wood burner, mood lighting and Sky TV, should you be able to draw your attention away from the spectacular waterside view.

Perfect for romantic getaways, the accommodation is cosy and welcoming, complete with underfloor heating, a wood burner and delightful king-size bed set into an inviting alcove. Despite its remote location, the TV has Sky Entertainment Plus, allowing you to curl up in front of your favourite film at the end of a long day. From the living space, large patio doors open onto the lawn garden, creating an al fresco feel all year round. After a restful night’s sleep in the boathouse, make your way to the charming shepherd’s hut next door to prepare a traditional Scottish breakfast in the kitchen/diner. This quirky space adds a further element of charm to this unique property.

When the weather is warm enough, dine al fresco on the driftwood table and chairs, which overlook the loch and mountains beyond. Or relax and rejuvenate in the private hot tub while enjoying a well-deserved glass of bubbly after a long day on foot.

Once you have followed one of the world’s most scenic drives to reach Loch Ewe, it’s time to make the most of this stunning and diverse landscape. Ideal for active types, walking, cycling, fishing, golf, canoeing and kayaking are all available in the local area. Follow the cliff-top coastal paths, admiring the views of the Outer Hebrides along the way. History buffs should not miss a visit to the emergency coastal battery built to defend Loch Ewe during WWII, or indeed the Pictish and Viking sites nearby. Or, for something more serene, jump on board one of the wildlife boat trips available from Inverewe and Gairloch. Visit the Inverewe Garden and Estate (1 mile) to spot Scotland’s big five in wildlife: the red squirrel, red deer, otter, seal and golden eagle, or admire the ever-changing colours of the heritage garden. Poolewe itself is an attractive village that is home to a convenience store and cafe, while nearby Gairloch boasts a popular pub (7.5 miles). For a change of scene, head south to reach the Loch Maree Islands (6.5 miles), a group of more than forty scattered islands, home to a fragment of the original Caledonian Pine Forest and one of Britain’s least polluted freshwater lochs.
