Perched on the banks of the bonnie Bengairn Loch, this contemporary yet homely lodge is perfect for a family holiday or a romantic retreat. Couples, small families and one dog will love relaxing and unwinding amongst the peaceful countryside after a busy day exploring quaint villages, bustling market towns and stately homes in the borders region of Scotland.

Making the most of its spectacular waterside location, large windows and patio doors allow light to flood into the charming open-plan living space. Unique in tones of teal and grey reflecting the changing waterside hues, warm wooden floors are complemented with cream walls in this stylish home. Privacy and personal space are easy to come by with the tranquil en-suite bedrooms located at either end of the living space.

Step inside this luxurious, single-storey lodge and discard your outdoor clothing in the hall vestibule and potter through to the charming open-plan living space. Light and bright during the day, once the wood burner-effect electric fire is lit it becomes cosy and welcoming, just perfect for snuggling on the comfortable sofas or enjoying a sociable meal in the firelight. On warm evenings, open the French doors to the patio and stargaze with a wee dram or a nice glass of wine in hand. Wake rejuvenated to magnificent loch views in the bedrooms and enjoy your morning cuppa listening to the sounds of the water.

Outside, the large patio has a seating area with comfortable table and chairs, perfect for al fresco dining morning, noon and night. Relax and unwind in the bubbling hot tub soaking up the beautiful loch and countryside views, a daily event not to be missed.

The bustling 18th-century market town of Castle Douglas (9 miles) is also a designated Food Town with lots of excellent, local produce. Here, visit Carlingwark Loch, dotted with islands and great for boating, learning to sail and picnicking. Kirkcudbright (11 miles), a harbour town on the Solway coast, is known as the Artists Town, and has many independent shops alongside some great places to eat.

Kids will love Mabie Farm Park (24 miles) which has a boating pond, pedal go-karts, quad bikes and trampolines, whilst Mabie Forest is one of the world-class 7stanes mountain biking centres and caters for beginners right through to expert riders. Outdoor enthusiasts will love exploring Galloway Forest Park (35 miles), home to dramatic ancient woodland, magnificent scenery and an astonishing range of local wildlife. This first Dark Sky Park in Europe offers walking, cycling, fishing or relaxing in the tearooms.

Galloway Activity Centre (19 miles) is located by the banks of Loch Ken and offers laser tag, archery, sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and a climbing tower. For wildlife and bird enthusiasts, enjoy a trip to the RSPB Ken Dee Marshes (15 miles) and explore the red kite trail, plus the Southwick Coast Wildlife Reserve (22 miles) has peaceful walks in pretty scenery. Keen golfers can play a round at Castle Douglas Golf Club (9 miles), Kirkcudbright Golf Club (11 miles) or Dalbeattie Golf Club (8 miles).

Peaceful and quiet location. Set next to water which is why I always look for. Just sitting looking over the water we saw lots of wildlife. Lodge was what we were expecting and to our high standards. Ideal location to just relax and not think. I really needed to relax and my choice booking here paid off. It made me happy seeing how happy my four yeRead morear daughter and dog were just playing outside the lodge. We visited the farm with owner Fiona on our last day. Definitely will be back. Hide

Rowan Lodge and the grounds at Bengairn are immaculate, the decor and furnishings are top of the range. Very pet friendly - our Frenchie Arlo had an utter blast. The placement of the lodges is fantastic, and the views are simply stunning. Fiona & Robin are so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed watching the sheep on the hill, visiting the horses in a Read morenearby field, and viewing the various birds in and around the lake. Absolutely beautiful lodge, inside and out. We were not disappointed in any way. The welcome hamper, flowers and chocolates were a lovely touch. The lodge was very clean and furnished to a high standard. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Fiona is so friendly and nothing is to much trouble for her even though she has a busy life on the farm. i would recommend to anyone, everything is all top quality in the lodge.

We had a lovely stay at The Rowan Lodge. Everything was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It's very dog friendly with the back garden being enclosed. The hot tub was a perfect temperature, as some we've stayed in aren't very warm at all. Lovely views and Fiona was very helpful in suggesting some things for us to do. The property is in a super location, everything is of top quality So peaceful and private, no need to shut the curtains, even in the bedrooms, so you get that view over the lake when you wake up Wonderfull wild life, and great hosts

We had a wonderful stay, the lodge is beautiful, spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. It has wonderful views over the loch with amazing sunsets and dark skies in a great location. The location of the lodge was outstanding and the views around it were stunning. We loved watching the birds visiting the loch and the daily changes in the location of the farms livestock. What a beautiful lodge rowan was. the setting was amazing as was the lodge. it was spotless and so well furnished. everything matched and everything that you needed was there. the welcome pack of local goodies was a lovely touch. Has to be one of the nicest holiday houses we have stayed at.

This is a fantastic property with a lovely view, bedrooms on each side offer some privacy with the living/dining area in the centre. Comfy beds & sofa, quality soft furnishings, large tv, shower is great as was the hot tub. Dogs not allowed in bedrooms. Excellent value. Many thanks

The lodges are of the highest standard I have ever seen. Every detail has been thought of. The owners are lovely people who welcomed us with lovely gifts. The location is stunning with lovely walks with a lovely hot tub to relax in, we will definitely be returning! Cant recommend them highly enough!

We stayed over Christmas 2022, the lovely welcome pack and the little festive touches that our host Fiona provided were very nice. We enjoyed the lodge, being a little off the beaten track but still close proximity to lots of beach walks and the craggy Scottish coastline was ideal.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a week and honestly was sad to leave, it was the most peaceful escape from our hectic life back in London. So clean and well put together, the most perfect location. Definitely couldnt fault it and have recommended for my parents to go next year :))))

What an amazing place. The lodge and the location are outstanding. The owners are so welcoming. We loved walking through the farm on our morning dog walk and chatting with farmer and so interesting throughout the day, seeing some of the daily goings on of farm life. Absolutely stunning inside and out! We were made to feel very welcome by Fiona and Robin. On arrival there was a wonderful box of treats, flowers and lovely products for use. If you like the quiet life, country walks and wildlife this is the perfect place for you.
