The magnificent Loch Katrine stretches for 8 miles, and from the nearby pier you can take a trip across the loch on the Sir Walter Scott Steamship. Loch Katrine has inspired poets including Wordsworth and Coleridge, and was the inspiration for Walter Scott’s famous poem, The Lady of the Lake. More recently, the loch has been used as a location for the popular TV series Outlander. To the north is Glengyle (3 miles), the birthplace of Rob Roy. The majestic Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is ideal for a range of outdoor pursuits with numerous tracks and trails which are perfect for keen cyclists and walkers of all abilities. Heading south-east, the pretty village of Aberfoyle (11.5 miles) nestles in the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and has some delightful places to eat and drink as well as the popular Scottish Wool Centre which tells the story of wool from sheep to shop, with demonstrations of spinning and sheepdog herding, as well as popular dog and duck shows. The 18-hole heathland Aberfoyle Golf Club (12.5 miles) was designed by James Braid in 1890, and offers some superb views across the national park. Loch Ard (7.5 miles) hosts a range of activities including water sports, fishing and a sculpture trail. The property is set in a secluded part of the Highlands, with a local lochside cafe just a few metres away, as well as a good pub within easy reach (4 miles) and the nearest shops in Aberfoyle.

The cottage is just like something out of a picture postcard and the starter pack was a great thought, must mention the fresh eggs which you can purchase from the honesty box just around the corner are amazing and the owner Roz also has a greenhouse full of amazing products.

Really nice stay and we had a great holiday there. The house is located in a very quiet location next to the beautiful loch Katrine. The owner has put a lot of effort in to making the house comfortable and installed some high quality kitchen and laundry equipment. There are a lot of activities in the surrounding areas suitable for families (includiRead moreng mountain biking through the forest from Aberfoyle and the three lochs forest drive) Hope to be able to go back again and stay another week soon!
