Set in a picturesque hamlet just south of St Boswells, this pretty cottage makes a lovely holiday home for a family or a couple looking to explore this wonderful part of the Scottish Borders. This attractive cottage has been brightly decorated and comfortably furnished, providing ample space for up to four guests across two delightful bedrooms. The area offers plenty of great outdoor activities, with several local golf courses, some excellent bike routes and the famous Kelso Racecourse all within easy reach. The property is set on a smallholding: guests are welcome to help collect the chickens’ eggs or visit the resident ponies.

 

Entering this bright, colourful and vibrantly decorated cottage you will find a charming lounge with Smart TV, comfortable seating and a wood burner, making this a great space to unwind at the end of an exhilarating day. Exploring further, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner makes a relaxing central living space with plenty of seating, a Smart TV, an inviting dining area and fully-equipped kitchen so you can cook your favourite meals. The ground floor also features a twin bedroom which can be made into a super-king-size on request, as well as a shower room with a level access shower cubicle and WC. A quirky spiral staircase leads from the kitchen/diner up into the light and airy first-floor master bedroom. This cosy and spacious double bedroom features exposed ceiling beams and window seating offering glorious rural views. There’s also an en-suite bathroom with double-ended bath and WC.

 

French doors open out from the dining area onto the enclosed patio, which has a  spacious four person hot tub, BBQ and outside furniture so you can dine alfresco. Please note that the private hot tub is charged at £135 per week or £90 for a short break, payable directly to the owner.  There’s also an enclosed garden to the side of the cottage. Secure bike storage is available, and there’s off-road parking for two cars.

The bustling village of St Boswells (3 miles) has several shops, a hotel, cafe, golf course and the remains of Dryburgh Abbey. St Boswells makes a great base for walkers and cyclists exploring both the Borders Abbey Way and St Cuthbert’s Way. A little to the north is Scott’s View (8 miles) – a favourite spot of the novelist Walter Scott, which offers a stunning view of Eildon Hill. The historic town of Melrose (9.5 miles) features the ruins of Melrose Abbey, the Priorwood orchard and the walled Harmony Gardens. The home of rugby sevens, Melrose is also host of the Melrose Sevens tournament. In the popular town of Kelso (11.5 miles) you will find numerous attractions and historic landmarks including the glorious Floors Castle, the 12th century Kelso Abbey, the Borders Events Centre, Kelso Racecourse and a range of shops and great places to eat and drink. Local activities include salmon and trout fishing in the River Tweed, ice skating and curling. The championship golf course at Roxburghe is also nearby (14 miles). Other local attractions include Walter Scott’s home of Abbotsford, Smailholm Tower, Mertoun Estate Gardens, the Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary and Born in the Borders (all within 10 miles) which offers a great day out with grass sledging, osprey spotting, a distillery and brewery. Slightly further afield are Hume Castle and Mellerstain House and Gardens (both within 15 miles). For guests with dogs, the owner is usually able to offer a dog-sitting service if you fancy a dog-free day.

Beautiful cottage in excellent location for exploring the Borders. Owner had thought of everything including DVDs, games, jigsaws and books for days when weather was not so nice. Really nice touch were the eggs from the owners chickens along with sweet treats, fresh fruit and some home grown veg and milk (in case you forgot to bring some.). Lovely spotlessly clean cottage. Very well equipped and comfortable. Owner Karen very welcoming and provided fresh eggs,milk, fruit and fresh veg from her garden. Our dog enjoyed the enclosed garden . Very peaceful and short drive to local attractions .

The cottage was excellent with everything you need for your stay. Very clean and in excellent condition throughout. Owners are lovely - friendly and welcoming. Very dog friendly with even a tin of dog treats and dog bed. The enclosed garden was brilliant for my dog to have a run round whilst we sat and enjoyed the sunshine. A very relaxing location and cottage. Having a garden for dogs is a real bonus.....and an excuse to chat to Karen, and to stroke her two dogs! We had a fantastic stay at Greenknowe Cottage and would definitely recommend it. The cottage is spotlessly clean, very well appointed, thoughtfully decorated and well equipped. We had an amazing stay at Greenknowe cottage over Xmas. We were nervous initially choosing to go away at the time of year but we need not have been! The cottage surpassed our expectations being fully decorated and Karen provided everything we needed for a beautiful family Xmas. It was clean and homely and we enjoyed the wonderful hot tub too. We had a lovely stay at Greenknowe Cottage. The cottage is very cosy with more than enough space for a family of 4. Having 2 sitting rooms was great for when people needed their own space. The hot tub was a brilliant way to relax at the end of the day. We visited Edinburgh and the Falkirk Wheel whilst we were there and also got to the Beach at ColdRead moreingham Bay. Just returned home after a great holiday at Greenknowe Cottage. Lovely quiet location and so so cosy. No matter how hard I try, I cant fault the accommodated or owner Karen. Was nicely stocked on our arrival (milk, eggs, biscuits, bowl of fruit, etc etc). We will DEFINITELY be coming back - going as far as saying this year
