Let the Cairngorms National Park be your playground with a stay at this historic gem of a property, nestled within the stunning landscapes of the Scottish Highlands. This converted former coaching inn is set on 3 acres of private grounds amid the grandeur of the Cairngorm mountains. It makes a wonderful base for a group of outdoorsy friends or a large family of up to eight, with one fresh-air-loving dog also welcome.

The cottage is decorated in a subtly colourful style, with walls painted in gentle shades and plenty of decorative touches, including large photos depicting the local landscapes - and, because we're in Scotland, plenty of checked prints. Natural materials like exposed stonework and wood contribute to a rustic, traditional atmosphere. All the windows are large so you can absorb the fantastic views wherever you are within the property.

On the ground floor, you'll have a cosy lounge featuring a wood burner, to keep you all toasty on chilly Scottish nights. The kitchen is well equipped for all those home-cooked group meals, with a range-style cooker, a slow cooker and a Nespresso coffee machine so you can start each day the right way. In the open-plan dining area, you can tuck into meals overlooking the garden. This floor also includes a utility room with laundry facilities, a king-size bedroom and a shower room with WC.

When it's time to retire for the evening, head up to the first floor, which has a family bathroom and three bedrooms: a double bedroom featuring a desk and an additional single bed, a cosy single room and another inviting double bedroom. On the landing, a sweet window seat on the landing creates a tranquil spot to contemplate the views while you're waiting for your turn in the shower.

This charming property also benefits from a good-size garden with a luxury feature: a thatched hut equipped with a heater and a gas BBQ so you can have al fresco parties when the weather is nice. A furnished patio creates a wonderful spot for relaxing in the fresh air. As well as the main garden, the property is surrounded by a further 2 acres of gardens and land encompassing lush grass, mature trees and wandering streams. When you're holidaying in a large group, it's a treat to be able to take peaceful strolls when you fancy a few moments to yourself. There's a storage shed for bikes and skis, along with a secure paddock that can double as a play area.

From the moment we arrived the place felt like home. The lounge was very cosy with the log burner and the bedrooms were perfect for our needs. The property was spotlessly clean and all the beds were really comfy. The location was just fabulous for our stay with Aviemore offering both supermarkets (for when we ate in) and local restaurants for when Read morewe ate out (we found the curry house particularly good!). We cannot recommend Pilmuir enough and will definitely consider staying here again. Hide
