Wonderful historic castle located in an idyllic position with period features, open fires and well-equipped games room for all the family to enjoy, plus within easy reach of beautiful sandy beaches.

Nestling within 8 acres of stunning private grounds, this magnificent castle offers sumptuous accommodation for up to thirteen guests across seven bedrooms. Set at the southern end of the beautiful Kintyre Peninsula, this superb property makes a wonderful holiday retreat for larger families and groups of friends in search of a tranquil and idyllic getaway in a peaceful rural setting.

The castle offers a range of period features and fantastic extras including open fires, four-poster beds, a spiral staircase and a fabulous games room, and has been beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished throughout. This stylish and welcoming property provides spacious, light and airy living spaces with a choice of unique and antique furnishings. The spectacular garden provides a wonderful setting for al fresco dining, and the extensive grounds are perfect for exploring.

Stepping inside this historic property, the spacious reception hall invites you through to the grand dining room. This is an ideal spot for everyone to meet for a special meal or a family gathering, and features a couple of splendid dining tables, a Bluetooth soundbar, a wine cooler and an open fire. Heading through to the cosy and strikingly decorated lounge, you will find a perfect space for everyone to relax at the end of a great day, with a Smart TV, plenty of seating, another open fire and French doors leading to the garden. This floor also features the games room which is equipped with a roulette table, chessboard, snooker/pool table and a range of books, puzzles, cards, and board games.

Stairs lead down to the lower-ground floor where you will find the sleek and fully equipped kitchen which is perfect for preparing everything from a quick snack to a celebratory feast. This leads through to a charming breakfast room.

Exploring the castle further, a spiral staircase leads up to the first floor where there are three stylishly decorated and relaxing bedrooms. There’s a pretty twin room and two double rooms, both with a fantastic four-poster bed and an en-suite Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

Heading further up the spiral staircase, the second floor offers the four remaining bedrooms, all with enchanting views. Here you will find two double rooms, a twin and a single along with an invigorating family bathroom.

Stepping outside, the spectacular garden and the surrounding grounds extend to 8 acres, with a private drive leading up to the front of the property. A substantial south terrace provides a lovely seating area which can be accessed directly from the lounge. You’re also welcome to head into the grounds to explore the woodlands.

Set in wonderfully secluded and idyllic surroundings, the castle is within easy reach of the bustling harbour town of Campbeltown (3 miles) where you will find an array of great independent shops, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants. The town is also home to three major distilleries, the Campbeltown Heritage Centre, Dalintober Beach and the Linda McCartney Memorial Garden.

Heading to the west of the peninsula you will come to the thriving coastal village of Machrihanish (5.5 miles), home of the internationally famous Machrihanish Golf Club and the superb Machrihanish Seabird/Wildlife Observatory where you can spot rare birds including Balearic shearwaters and Leach’s petrels. This breathtaking part of the Kintyre Peninsula can be accessed by road, plane or ferry, and is known for its unspoiled beauty, splendid long white sandy beaches and abundant wildlife. The peninsula is an ideal destination for golfers, cyclists, nature lovers, water sports enthusiasts and walkers following the Kintyre Way.

Other local attractions include Westport Beach – a popular surfing spot (8 miles), Tangy Mill (10 miles), Lussa Loch (10.5 miles), Smerby Castle (6 miles), Dunaverty Rock and St Columba’s Chapel, Footprints and Holy Well (both 8.5 miles). You can also take a ferry or boat trip out to explore islands including Gigha, Arran, Islay and Jura.

Absolutely fabulous, all the family thoroughly enjoyed their stay. So much space and the hot tub was a bonus. There was everything and more that you could think of in the castle Lovely owners and Iain and Jamie were stars. Kilchrist Castle was superb holiday accommodation for our large family gathering - 13 in all, so we fitted in perfectly. Everything was very comfortable and well equipped. This place is AMAZING! Our international group of 9 had the best experience possible here. One clarification, one of the rooms with 2 singles is accessed through one of the main rooms. I either missed that information or it wasn't clear in the description. It had zero effect on my party, but thought it could others. Came down with all the family for a week away, and everyone had such a great time. Lovely spacious rooms and grounds which made us feel like royalty. The castle was well equipped for large groups and we would highly recommend.

We took our extended family for a weeks stay over August 22 and I cannot recommend it enough The Castle itself is steeped in history and is beautifully decorated and furnished to the highest level.
