Settle in for a romantic break at this gorgeous, single-storey cottage at Duns, on the Scottish borders. This exquisite, period home, which was once a gatehouse, has been beautifully renovated to offer stylish, sophisticated accommodation, suitable for a couple and up to two of their four-legged friends. Wander the streets of Duns, with its pretty market square, independent shops and choice of restaurants. Head to the coast 13 miles away to walk along the cliffs and spot a plethora of birdlife. Return to your holiday home to bask by the wood burner or bubble in the hot tub.

Open the front door on to this beautiful cottage and wander down the hall to hang your coats in the utility room. Amble on through into the inviting lounge to recline on the comfortable seating and choose your evening’s viewing on the Smart TV. Lay a fire in the wood burner to create an inviting glow. When mealtimes beckon, head through into the kitchen/diner, where you will find everything you need to prepare delicious dinners for two. Make a cup of coffee in the espresso machine in here to enjoy after your wonderful meal.

At the end of each long day out discovering the beauty of the picturesque area, run yourself a long, hot bath and then head on through to the king-size bedroom to lay your head in comfort for the night.

Take breakfast out on the deck in the enclosed garden on summer mornings. Light the BBQ to cook lunch or supper out in the fresh air and fire up the hot tub in the evening for a luxurious soak under the stars. Pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy the tranquillity. Find parking for one car at the cottage. Additional space is on the road, subject to availability.

  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £150 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £20. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

 

Find a wealth of activities and places to visit in Duns itself. Stroll through the nature reserve at Duns Castle or visit spectacular Manderston House, where you can tour the stately home and explore the 56 acres of garden. Motoring enthusiasts might also like to spend time at the Jim Clarke Museum.

Visit Paxton House, 11 miles from the town and widely described as one of Britain’s finest Palladian mansions. Discover the beautiful house here; wander through the picturesque, woodland gardens and take a boat trip on the River Tweed.

Head 11 miles, and just over the border into England, to visit Norham Castle. Set high on a grassy mound, above the River Tweed, this stronghold was besieged at least 13 times by Robert Bruce. Drive 15 miles to spend an afternoon in Berwick-upon-Tweed: see its famous Elizabeth walls, browse in its many independent boutiques and shops and dine out in one of its varied restaurants.

Walk from Berwick along the coast to Burnmouth. The 7-mile route affords fantastic coastal vistas. Alternatively try a 4-mile walk from St Abbs, 14.5 miles from the cottage, to Eyemouth, which gives you views out towards the rock formation known as the Ebb Carrs.

Lovely generally and renovated a while ago to a high quality and style. We really enjoyed our stay here, however there a few maintenance and cleaning issues and frustrating to see these had been raised in previous reviews and haven't been addressed. The list of dog rules (only provided fully when arriving) means this isn't really a dog-friendly cotRead moretage, and the issues with the hot-tub maintenance (poor jet pressure, broken cover) reduced our enjoyment of staying here. Outside area really disappointing, overgrown with weeds, dirty and hot tub cover split in two and ripped, jets not working, and water full of leaves. Current condition nothing like what is advertised. On main road and access down lane to garden . Interior great but garden area not pet friendly . Dogs not allowed on furniture or in bedroom . Garden access is out of front door and walk to back garden access gate so dogs need to be controlled . I would say dog accepted not dog friendly. Beautiful cottage in a great location! Perfect base for exploring the area with lots of places to visit only 30 mins away. Lovely walks in the area too. The local town is lovely and people are very friendly. The cottage itself is lovely and cosy with everything we needed. Fridge is a bit small so just be aware not to do a full weeks shop like we diRead mored, but there are lots of local shops to top up throughout the stay. Would definitely come back again! Hide

We had high expectations for this property after reading the reviews. Sadly the hot tub area is most disappointing. The cover for the tub was broken and very dirty. It was a challenge to lift & return the cover. The area is neglected, cover from bbq lying on patio, table dirty and a very annoying spot light that came on every time you moved! Beautiful cottage with great travel routes to the coast. Immaculately clean and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. A welcome hamper was a lovely surprise and much appreciated. Would highly recommend.

The house is lovely, clean and smart. The hot tub was great (no direct access from the house). Duns is a lovely location with plenty of places to eat and lots of interesting places to visit in the area. We enjoyed the forest and river walks with our dog.

Just back from an amazing week in this beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean, very welcoming, everything you need for a relaxing holiday! Stayed there with our one year old daughter and everything was catered for. Location is great so close to so many great towns, Duns was lovely itself and had everything you need close by.

Very lovely cottage and we really enjoyed our stay. A great base for discovering the many castles and stately homes as well as the spectacular coastal walks. Although the cottage is billed as dog friendly, there were a lot of rules concerning the dog. The cottage description should say that the garden area is accessible via the back gate only. Viewlaw lodge had everything we needed for our stay and was very comfortable. Lots to do in local and surrounding areas. No entrance directly to garden/hot tub. Not being able to let our dog into the garden first thing in a morning to do her business was a pain. Garden/ hot tub area wasnt as well kept as the lodge needs some attention

Tastefully, comfortably and well-equipped renovated cottage. Without direct access and having Astro-turf, the garden isnt suitable for dogs, which should have been mentioned in the cottage companys description.

Comfortable. Convenient location. Nicely furnished and equipped. Space enough for a couple and a small to medium dog. Close to a main road but you're really not aware of it once inside - I'd take that over two miles of pot holes to some rural secluded place. Thank you.

Dog tolerant, not dog friendly. Front door opens straight onto a lane that cars fly up and down, so make sure your dog is on a lead! Garden is at side of house with no direct access from house and is astro turf, so not for dogs, and if you want to use the hot tub, again, no direct access from house. I would recommend this staycation to couples the location great and the locals warm friendly and helpful. The garden enclosed garden is private and welcoming with a deck, patio set, BBQ and Hot tub. Too many restrictions make this the place not to take your pets. We had a really nice week here.The cottage is well equipped,clean and warm.We accepted on booking that there is no back door but staying for a week and going out the front door along to the garden gate to let the dog out is a pain.Especially when the garden is Astra turfed and the dog is not allowed to biz. Beautiful cottage, only downside was the hot tub was to the side of the building so you had to go out the front door and round. The other thing that was annoying was the outside light kept going on & off when in the hot tub. Other than that a very beautiful cottage and would definitely recommend to others
