Sitting on a working farm on the island of Westray – ‘the Queen o’ the Isles’ - this beautiful self-contained wing in the 18th-century House of Brough is cosy and intimate. Offering wonderful sea views, it’s the perfect romantic retreat for two. Spend your days spotting puffins at Noup Head Cliffs (6 miles) or strolling hand in hand along Pierowall Beach (2.5 miles), and your nights snuggling up in front of the property’s glowing wood burner. Peek outside and you may even see the Northern Lights.

Overflowing with quaint, quirky charm, this wing is truly unique. Traditional features like flagstone flooring and exposed stone walls blend effortlessly with smart, modern styling and fun features like the ‘Gin and Tonic Terrace’. It lends itself easily to an atmosphere of intimacy and romance.

This wonderful wing has its own entrance door that leads into a stylish open-plan kitchen/diner. Cook up a feast for two in the kitchen and enjoy a romantic meal in the intimate dining area. After dinner, make your way to the lounge, slip onto a sofa and catch up on all of your favourite TV shows. If the mood takes you, pull up a pew at the piano and strike up a tune.

Climb the spiral staircase to the first-floor and you’ll find the wonderful ‘Gin and Tonic Terrace’ where you can relax with your favourite tipple and take in the view from the enormous windows. The bedroom boasts a super-king-size bed, and has a screen wall to separate it from the Gin and Tonic Terrace, which means that the entire space is bathed in natural light.

Outside, you’ll find a walled garden with a pond. Parking for two cars is available on the driveway. Please note that the wing is attached to the owner’s home.

Westray, although small in size, is a vibrant and fascinating island that is entwined in Norse history. Known as the ‘Queen o’ the Isles’, it boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in the Orkney Islands. It also makes a great base to visit the adjacent island of Papa Westray via the passenger ferry from nearby Pierowall (2.5 miles).

Noup Head Cliffs (6 miles) are a must-see for nature-lovers. The cliffs are an RSPB reserve, and you can expect to see peregrine falcons, ravens, gannets and puffins between April and July. Afterwards, take a stroll on Westray’s finest stretch of sand at Grobust (4 miles) and explore the remains of the ancient Neolithic settlement at the Links of Noltland.

Alternatively, check out the island’s incredible artisan producers. Sample the shortbread at Westray Bakehouse (3.5 miles), grab a jar of Fairtrade chutney at Westray Chutney (2 miles), or check out the wonderful local artwork on offer at Westray Art Gallery (2 miles).

Noltland Castle (3 miles) is also worth seeing. Built by the master of Mary Queen of Scots’ household – who sought refuge on the island after the queen’s arrest in 1567 - this imposing 16th-century building harks back to a particularly turbulent time of Scottish history. It is heavily fortified, with seven-foot-thick stone walls and boasts no less than 71 gun-holes.
