Quirky and delightful period cottage, perfect for a romantic retreat with its wood burner for cosy nights in and a fully enclosed garden. Nestled in an idyllic rural position surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Scottish Borders.

Wake up to the relaxing sounds of the countryside in this charming period property in rural Scotland. The cottage sleeps two guests, plus two canine companions, making it a perfect romantic bolthole. Set off from your front door to enjoy peaceful walks through the countryside, or journey to Jedburgh (5 miles) to pick up the Borders Abbeys Way. After a day of exploring, return to your cosy cottage to relax by the warming wood burner or sip a sundowner in the garden, surrounded by open fields and local wildlife.

The traditional cottage has bright, airy rooms with high ceilings and relaxing rural views. Simple decor and neutral paintwork provide a calm atmosphere, with pretty artwork depicting the local countryside and creating a homely feel.

A flight of stone steps leads to the vestibule of this delightful cottage. Leave your coats and muddy boots here, and head into the light and bright lounge/diner. Share a romantic dinner for two by the window, watching the local wildlife, before retiring to the opposite end of the room to snuggle by the wood burner and watch a film on the Smart TV. There is a sofa bed in this room, to sleep an additional two guests if required. A sleek kitchen completes the ground floor.

Upstairs, discover a spacious king-size bedroom that’s decorated in neutral tones for a restful night’s sleep. The bedroom boasts beautiful countryside views. A bright shower room is also located on this level.

Heading outside, there’s a gorgeous garden that’s fully enclosed and laid to lawn – perfect for your four-legged friends. At the end of a busy day, pour yourself a glass of wine and take a moment to chill out in the seating area, watching the birds coming and going, along with the occasional red squirrel. With its remote landscapes, evocative ruins, romantic castles, and winding rivers, The Scottish Borders is the perfect place for a memorable getaway with your loved one.

The picturesque town of Melrose (16 miles) is a must for the itinerary. This picture-postcard town of red sandstone buildings, at the foot of the Eildon Hills, is just magical. Amble along its quaint streets, popping into the independent boutiques and tearooms, before investigating one of the two immaculate National Trust for Scotland gardens.

Melrose Abbey is another one for the list. Its magnificent 12th-century ruins of lavishly decorated masonry are full of drama and mystery – best visited on a dreich afternoon for maximum impact.

Just outside Melrose, you’ll find Abbotsford. The ancestral home of Sir Walter Scott is utterly fascinating; wander through the poet’s study and marvel at his extensive library, before taking a relaxing stroll through the colourful walled gardens and tranquil woodlands.

As you’d expect, the walking opportunities in the area are endless. The Borders Abbeys Way is a great way to experience the region’s varied landscape. The 68-mile route takes you through historic towns and villages, linking four great ruined abbeys in Kelso, Jedburgh, Dryburgh, and, of course, Melrose

A really quaint cottage with outstanding views from the front. You can see the horses in their stables from the kitchen window, too! Lots of lovely walks from the property, including Ruberslaw hill and the Borders Abbeys Way. A short stroll up into the woods is delightful. The cottage was well-equipped and cosy - perfect for a couple. The pubs in DRead moreenholm are friendly, dogs welcome in bar areas. Butchers and shop are handy. Easy to get to other towns. The views and peaceful situation were breathtaking and we had a lovely reception from Kate and Jeremy. The equipment provided was especially good for a two week stay, and the heating more than adequate for a rather chilly July spell.

Comfortable cottage and well-equipped. Great view - we enjoyed watching the horses in the field opposite as we ate our dinner. Could walk from the doorstep and were also in easy reach of all the Borders towns. Loved it!

Restaurants and places to eat just a few miles away. Plenty walks nearby for the dogs who had plenty of fun. The enclosed garden was ideal for them.
