This charming period cottage with a roaring wood burner is perfect for a family getaway. Nestled in a peaceful location, it is the ideal base for a holiday on the magical Isle of Arran.

Nestled on the south-eastern coast of the Isle of Arran, this charming country cottage is ideal for families looking to explore all that Arran has to offer. It’s located 1.5 miles from the tranquil village of Lamlash, Arran’s largest settlement, but still small in comparison to mainland towns and villages. Here, you can make the most of the village’s range of eateries and facilities, and enjoy walking and cycling routes which afford stunning views of Holy Island.

High ceilings and neutral tones create the sense of space in this country cottage, while traditional décor makes it feel homely and welcoming. On entering, discard muddy boots and wet coats in the porch before you head into the kitchen/diner. Here, you’ll find everything you need to cook up a hearty breakfast or a warming evening meal with enough room around the table for everyone. When it’s time to snuggle up for the evening, head into the lounge to sink into the sofas in front of the roaring wood burner. Completing the ground floor is a modern shower room.

Upstairs amongst the eaves, there are two light and airy bedrooms, one double and one twin. Both clean and fresh so you can get a good night’s sleep.

Outside, a delightful enclosed garden offers somewhere for the kids to let off steam and stretch their legs. Meanwhile, the adults can sit back and enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of fizz while soaking up the sounds of the countryside. The gravel driveway provides parking for two cars.

If you’re looking for an action-packed holiday, the Isle of Arran is the perfect location for you. Known as ‘miniature Scotland’, its rich and varied landscape includes forests, beaches and mountains to keep you busy, with stunning panoramic views in almost every direction. Goatfell (10 miles) is its largest mountain and there are some spectacular views on the ascent and at the summit. Glen Rosa (7 miles) is also beautiful, but remember to pack your swimming costumes so that you can visit the ‘blue pool’ for a quick dip. You should also take your binoculars wherever you go as the island is home to plenty of wildlife such as red squirrels, golden eagles and sea otters.

Arran is well-known for its local produce from cheese to oatcakes to ice cream, so be sure to sample some of these delights. In the north of the island in Lochranza, you’ll find Arran Distillery with its visitor centre and shop where you can enjoy a wee dram of the local tipple. For something more sedate and historical, Brodick Castle and Gardens (7 miles) is a lovely day out, and is only a few miles from the ferry port in Brodick itself (4.5 miles).

Lamlash has its own golf club (1.5 miles) for those looking to tee off in a beautiful setting. There is also a keen sailing fraternity here, so find your inner sea dog and take to the water. Boat trips go from the pier to Holy Island, where Tibetan monks run a retreat.

My family stayed for one week at Mill Cottage and we all absolutely loved it! The house is perfectly situated and extremely comfortable. My two daughters (aged 10 and 8) loved their attic room. The kitchen is a great size and well equipped. The owners were more than kind to us when our arrival time was affected by disrupted ferries due to Storm KatRead morehleen. I would definitely book again and thoroughly recommend it. Magical memories created of our Arran adventure! Hide

Cosy little cottage in a lovely quiet location. There was milk and a bottle of Cava awaiting our arrival. Wood burning stove all ready to go, but not needed. Plenty of space for 2 people for a week. You don't often get a place where you have space to hang and dry outdoor gear. Location good for accessing north and south of the island. Info on walksRead more and places to visit, as well a few paperbacks and games. Would stay again. Hide

Lovely cottage on edge of Lamlash. We found the cottage was comfortable for our family of four including 2 children aged 8 and 6yrs. Porch was very handy for storing bikes/beach things and small garden for kids to play in. Great snug, little cottage on the edge of Lamlash. For 3 adults, as we were, it was a great base for our return to the island for the week. The fire required a little attention so to close properly and a few additional items in the bathroom and kitchen were suggested in our note we left. All in all, I cottage we would certainlty recommend for an olRead moreder party - a little snug for those with young children perhaps. Hide

Super place. It met all our needs as walkers. The porch was extremely useful for storing wet kit. The beds were very comfortable and providing a carton of milk on arrival was very thoughtful.

The cottage is small but has everything you need for a holiday. We were a family of four with 2 kids aged 7 and 8 and stayed for a week. The kids enjoyed playing in the garden and we all thought the beds were very comfortable. Within easy walking distance of the beach and restaurants in Lamlash.
