Cove and the neighbouring village of Kilcreggan (2 miles), are renowned for their imposing Victorian house, built by wealthy ship owners and merchants in Glasgow. One of these properties is Burgh Hall, now a thriving community centre in Cove. Drop in to see its programme of events, which range from energetic ceilidhs to book festivals and much more. The lively village also has a restaurant and excellent country store, with more shops and amenities close by in Kilcreggan.

One of many superb local walks with magnificent views starts here, with a 4.5-mile trail to the village of Rosneath, where you can catch a bus back to your starting point at Kilcreggan pier. The oldest wooden pier on the Clyde, it was built in 1850 and is still in regular use. From here you can catch a passenger ferry across to Gourock, then hop on the train for a 45-minute ride to vibrant Glasgow, with its splendid museums and a wealth of urban attractions. Visit beautiful Glenarn Gardens (14 miles), first planted in 1850 and famous for the rhododendrons and magnolias in the spring, followed by rambling roses in midsummer. Paths wind through the 10-acre gardens, with lovely views across Gare Loch.
