Perfect for a romantic retreat, this fantastic wing of a Victorian Gothic revival mansion boasts an array of period quirky features including turret and exposed stone walls, set amid landscaped gardens.

This delightful romantic retreat for two has the perfect setting in a splendid Victorian mansion with a picture-book turret and tranquil gardens. The secluded hideaway is tucked away in a wing of the impressive Gothic Revival house, yet you are within a 500-metre stroll of the bustling market town of Crieff. Surrounded by the beautiful Perthshire countryside, and with wonderful walks on the doorstep, this is an ideal base for a couple to enjoy a lovely, relaxing break.

The apartment is cosy, stylish and full of character, enhanced by period details such as the exposed stone chimney breast, fine mantelpiece and deep-set windows. Items of attractive vintage furniture, including a mirror above a small sideboard and pine doors add to the charm and homely atmosphere.

From the gardens, a flight of steps leads to the private wing and entrance to the spacious open-plan interior. Relax on the comfortable leather sofa in front of the TV and wood burner-effect electric fire after a great day out. If you’re planning a cosy night in, the well-planned kitchen area has all you need to rustle up a delicious meal, along with a dining table for two. A door from the living area leads to a double bedroom, with a wooden bed and soft toned linen with touches of colour in the cushions and throw. A pair of pretty bedside tables add appeal to this inviting room. A walk-in wet room with a quirky circular wall completes a welcoming retreat.

Outside, in the lovely, shared gardens is a private bench where you can enjoy the view and stargaze at night skies free of light pollution.

Crieff has a reputation for fine food, which you can sample at one of the many restaurants, cafes and coffee shops. Enjoy a browse round a wide range of family-run specialist shops selling crafts, clothes and artworks, or if you’re in the mood for adventure, visit the town’s renowned Hydro Resort. Active pursuits here include a treetop walk and quad bike rides. Alternatively, opt for some indulgent pampering in the health spa.

Take a tour round Glenturret (1 mile), Scotland’s oldest working distillery, to see hand-crafted whisky in the making, and taste-test a wee dram. There is a wealth of scenic walking trails around Crieff against a splendid backdrop of mountains. One of the finest, Lady Mary’s Walk, takes you along the bank of the River Earn, which flows past Crieff. The 3.5-mile route takes you through glorious woodland and back to the town on old drove roads.

Explore Drummond Castle Gardens (2.5 miles), one of the many magnificent Scottish locations seen in the TV series Outlander. There is fishing on the Earn and if golfing is the sport for you, head for famous Gleneagles (11 miles). Further afield, visit Scone Palace (20 miles), the historic crowning place of Scotland’s kings, with 100 acres of beautiful woodland gardens—a perfect spot for a peaceful picnic.
