The detached property sleeps six and is set on a working farm, close to beautiful country walks and cycle routes in the unspoiled Machars of Galloway peninsula. With wonderful, sandy beaches within easy reach and a landscape rich in history to explore, this is the perfect location for a family holiday.

The homely and comfortable bungalow has a welcoming feel, with a touch of luxury in the log-fired Swedish hot tub on a large, private patio, part sheltered by trees. The farm owners are happy to arrange for guests to feed their lambs and take calves for a walk on a lead—a lovely holiday bonus for children and adults alike.

Enter the property via a handy porch for boots, and a spacious hall, with ample storage room. This leads to a bright, open-plan lounge/diner, with comfortable sofas and a relaxing recliner chair where you can take it easy after a day in the great outdoors. Watch TV, read a book or just enjoy the peace and seclusion as you gaze at the countryside view. An elegant dining table and chairs slot into the rear of the room, while the fully equipped kitchen next door will delight keen cooks. Enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep in one of three roomy and inviting double bedrooms, all furnished in pale tones.

2.5 miles away is Port William, a pretty 18th-century village overlooking Luce Bay–look out for the bronze statue of a fisherman forever gazing out to sea. The village offers shops, children’s playparks and great places to eat, including a cafe on the harbour where you can enjoy the wonderful view. Discover beautiful beaches both here and in nearby Monreith (2.5 miles) with sand and rock pools to explore. Tee off at family-friendly St Medan Golf Club (2.5 miles) in a glorious setting overlooking the sea. The club welcomes visitors, both experienced golfers and novices, to the 9-hole course.

Visit atmospheric St Ninnian’s Cave (9 miles), thought to be the retreat of Scotland’s first saint and still a place of pilgrimage. Accessible only on foot, you can reach it by an easy walk through a leafy glen from Physgill then along the pebble beach, where you may encounter inquisitive seals. If you love reading, head for Wigtown (10.5 miles). Known as Scotland’s book town, with an annual festival, it’s home to the country’s biggest second-hand book shop, with an estimated stock of 100,000 titles. After a satisfying browse, consider a reviving dram on a tour of nearby Bladnoch Distillery (8 miles).

A home away from home in a beautiful rural setting. The kitchen has everything you need, there is plenty to keep children entertained on a rainy day and the hot tub is all its talked up to be. Helen and Alex were helpful and accommodating, but the cottage is private and removed from the farm so it feels like your own home. Give yourself enough timeRead more to explore the beaches and walks in the area. Hide

Great place. Beautiful area, spacious property. We felt that there was so much space inside and out. The property had a lovely feel to it. We loved the fabulous hot tub and enjoyed having the farm animals so close. Hosts were very friendly and gave us a great tour of the farm and a chance to meet the animals close up.
