A peaceful and romantic haven bursting with character; renovated from a former mill and designed for couples and their four-legged friends.

Designed with couples in mind, this wonderfully renovated 19th-century former mill is a romantic haven bursting with character, set in the heart of rural southern Scotland. Walk for miles through the scenic countryside, visit stunning national parks and discover pretty villages or bustling market towns in this beautiful region.

Annexed to the owner's home, this stone-built riverside retreat is full of rustic charm with stone feature walls, exposed wooden beams and a galleried bedroom accessed via a bespoke spiral staircase. There is a lovely, welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive, along with thoughtful touches by the owners.

Enter through the sunroom, which is equipped with art materials and an easel for your use. Venture into the fully equipped kitchen, where the smell of homemade bread will greet you if you are early enough. The large open-plan lounge/diner is the heart of the home, with a sumptuous sofa, leather recliner and a bespoke cottage craft dining table. Exposed stonework and a cathedral beam ceiling make this a special place to curl up in front of the blazing wood burner and relax with a good book or even better company.

When it comes time for bed, follow the spiral staircase up to the inviting galleried bedroom. Featuring Velux roof windows that you can open up to watch the sky above, and listen to the calming sounds of the river flowing nearby from the comfort of a luxurious king-size bed. The bedside aromatherapy diffuser with complimentary oils completes the mood. A separate dressing area leads onto an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and a spa bath, fully equipped with bath salts, washing toiletries, massage oils and toys, including floating wine glasses and even rubber ducks! Emerge from the tub to Egyptian cotton bath sheets, spa dressing gowns, and slippers.

Head outside to the beautiful, fully enclosed garden surrounded by hills and fields, and relax in the seating area of your choice to watch the wildlife or the river flow by. In the evening, light the outdoor candles, fire up the BBQ or the chiminea and snuggle up in the blankets provided to enjoy the fairy lights dotted about and listen to the babble of the river. There is a pond and four seating areas in the garden, and there’s also a secret path to uncover! Find it and explore the river, which is fantastic for fishing if you fancy a go.

Fantastic cottage - lovely quiet location and the garden was fully enclosed for the dogs. Good walks up the lane with hardly any traffic and lovely walks and shops available close by in Langholm. Very welcoming owners with special touch of bread, biscuits, milk & bacon. Perfect place to stay with dogs as all stone floors and useful porch if damp ! The cottage is beautiful. It is extremely well equipped although we nearly slipped up by putting the crockery in the dish washer. We only used that once as the plates etc are not dishwasher friendly.
