Set amongst spectacular scenery along the far north stretch of the infamous North Coast 500, this is a fantastic retreat for small families or couples travelling together. Sit is sat within the hillside in the small hamlet of Navidale, just 0.5 miles from the harbourside town of Helmsdale. An ancient croft cottage that has been lovingly restored, it oozes character and charm and boasts incredible views of the sea from every room of the house. Why not take in the spectacular panoramas from the deck area or hop in the hot tub at dusk and relax under the stars?

Upon entering this traditional stone-built cottage, you’ll find yourselves in the kitchen/dining area. Spacious and well-equipped, it offers lovely views of the countryside and coastline beyond. Move into the lounge next door, which is warm and welcoming and boasts an open fire for cooler evenings; it’s an elegant space to relax in following a day exploring the local area. The first of three bedrooms is also located on the ground floor – a cosy double with an en-suite bathroom. Keen bird watchers might want to take their binoculars to the conservatory at the front of the cottage or simply sit back and breathe in the tranquil views.

Head upstairs via a narrow-angled staircase to two further bedrooms in the eaves; a twin and another double. Here, you’ll also find a shower room with a WC and an infrared sauna – quite the treat to enjoy at any time of the year!

Outside, there is a large, enclosed garden with a fire pit – a wonderful space to enjoy some scran within inspiring scenery. Guests can also make use of the sunken hot tub (there’s an extra charge for use – please enquire when booking) further adding to the appeal of this bonnie hillside retreat.

The immediate area surrounding this historic croft cottage is, as you’d expect, largely agricultural land, where a beautiful patchwork of fields gives way to the dramatic coastline. Step out and into the breathtaking scenery, with walking routes in every direction.

However, you’re far from remote in this rural location, with shops and entries located 0.5 miles away at nearby Helmsdale, an ancient harbour town now synonymous with salmon fishing. Pan for gold in the river (rumoured to be a favoured fishing location of our King) or take the bairns fossil hunting along its dramatic Jurassic coastline.

A visit to the Timespan Museum & Arts Centre (1 mile) will further add to your local geographical knowledge. The beach itself is mainly pebble and shingle and welcomes dogs – it’s a dramatic location and a great place to enjoy a box of fish and chips. Golf lovers will surely enjoy playing a round at Helmsdale Golf Club, which offers spectacular riverside views.

Further afield, there are a great many walking trails and downhill mountain bike routes at Golspie, which is 23 miles from the property. Or perhaps you’d like to make a day trip to the seaside resort of Dornoch for yet more dramatic scenery, or Brora for its serene panoramas and wildlife watching; both locations can be reached within 30 miles.

Location extremely remote, great for exploring. Not so much for families as a lot of travelling involved to get anywhere of interest. Hot tub great asset! Cottage itself could do with a top to toe deep clean but in terms of size and space it was absolutely fantastic and no complaints for our family of four including small toddler!

We absolutely loved our stay here. The cottage suited our needs perfectly. We loved the views from the cottage and didn't want to leave. The cottage had everything in it we needed for our week there.
