Escape to this historic cottage that sits at the entrance of a private estate in the ancient village of Doune, just 8 miles from Stirling. The local area, once known for its pistol making, is steeped in history and home to Doune Castle, which has famously been featured in many films and TV series, thanks to the unspoilt beauty of its surroundings. Brimming with charm, the property itself has been tastefully decorated throughout; retaining many original features, it’s a veritable feast for your eyes.

Step inside to the inviting lounge which features a sophisticated scheme of bold colours, prints and beautiful decorative objects; with the wood burner lit, it is a welcoming space to spend time in for the evening, perhaps with a dram in hand and a good book to read. A well-equipped kitchen offers all you’ll need to enjoy the convenience of a self-catered stay. Whether you’re preparing a hearty meal or have bought one in, the dining table in the sunroom is the perfect place to enjoy getting everyone around the table. During the warmer months, throw open the French doors to the garden. The three well-presented bedrooms are all doubles, one with an en-suite shower room and WC. There is also a separate shower room with WC.

Outside, the cottage boasts a mature garden with lawned area, trees and shrubs which wrap around the property. The patio and seating area is a delightful spot for al fresco dining and showcases lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

The property sits at the entrance of a country estate within a spectacular village. Doune is a tranquil location and boasts a rich history. It is mainly known for its pistol-making and for Doune Castle, which was built by the Duke of Albany in the 14th century. Featured in TV shows such as Highlander and the infamous Winterfell in Game of Thrones, enjoy a tour of the castle and its beautiful parklands which leads you into Doune itself. The village can also be reached within 0.5 miles of the cottage and offers plenty of shops and restaurants.

Situated 8 miles away is Stirling, a university city with plenty going on. Discover the breathtaking grounds of Stirling Castle and take a tour inside to witness the beauty of its sumptuous Royal Court. Brimming with historic buildings, galleries, eateries and shops, you can certainly make a day of your visit.

Keen walkers can enjoy many trails directly from the doorstep of the property; the Doune Castle and River Teith riverside walk is a popular route, taking less than an hour to complete – of course – you could always stop at one of the cafes or tearooms in the village to make the experience last longer!

The "Jacobite Lodge" in the wonderful little village of Doune lived up to my expectations, in fact the photos do not do it full justice! So tastefully furnished with a little touch of quirkiness! Almost gives you the impression you are stepping back in time! I loved it.

Amazing place - highly recommend . So quirky and cute. Big garden that is totally dog friendly and enclosed. Doune is a lovely village and great amenities (big co-op and good pub for food) and close for some great days out. Hosts are very friendly and helpful but also respect your privacy
