Enjoy a couples’ holiday or a solo trip in the Scottish countryside at this wee shepherd's hut, located in an idyllic spot 5 miles from Annan in Dumfries and Gallaway. The standalone dwelling 7 miles from the Scotland-England border is located within a functioning farm and boasts spectacular views over the expansive countryside. It’s a wonderful base for exploring the scenic landscapes of Dumfries by foot, car or bike.

This bonnie little property offers rustic yet comfortable living. The outside is presented in painted metal for an attractive and clean appearance. Inside, it’s decorated in a warm style with tasteful artwork on the walls, attractive decorative additions such as tiles in the kitchen and plenty of wood. The wood-panelled ceiling is gently curved, reflecting the outside of the hut, and the wood panels are repeated elsewhere for a cohesive overall look.

You’ll access the property via a pathway with the owner's chickens clucking around your feet. Ascend three short steps to reach French doors that lead inside. The cosy, open-plan interior features a dining space, a Smart TV, a small but perfectly formed kitchen and a lofted double bed with handy storage below. A separate shower room with a WC completes the indoor living area.

Heading out the French doors again, your outside space reveals gasp-worthy views of the surrounding fields. The enclosed garden is a haven for reading, dining and relaxing in good weather. There's a comfortable seating area that overlooks the stunning rural landscape, setting the stage for a relaxing experience and outdoor dining. And the icing on the cake? The luxurious private wood-fired hot tub, where you can rest those weary limbs with the serene countryside all around you.

The trail finishes all the way up in the hills north of Moffat (30 miles), so you can choose which stretch you choose to walk.

In Annan, the town's vibrant high street offers much to the curious visitor, with its rich history and excellent selection of local shops, cafes and eateries.

Keen to visit an atmospheric Scottish fortress? You won’t need to go far, with the 13th-century Caerlaverock Castle a mere 18-mile drive. The stunning Carlisle Castle, an English Heritage site, is also just over the border.
