In a peaceful rural spot halfway between Edinburgh, this dog-friendly lodge offers peaceful accommodation for friends and families. It’s located on a working cattle and sheep farm and is surrounded by bonnie countryside and forestry paths – a nature lover’s dream.

Having reached the accommodation via a secluded track, step inside to discover a homely interior with plenty of location-appropriate decorative touches, such as tartan soft furnishings and countryside-themed artwork. Cheerful hues and quality wooden furniture ensure you feel right at home during your stay.

This single-storey property has a generously sized open-plan living area with comfy seating, a Smart TV and a wood burner to keep you all cosy on chilly evenings. In the fully-equipped kitchen, cook up delightful family meals cooked with produce from the farm shop as your pet dozes off in the designated sleeping spot. A dining area serves as the perfect setting for family meals and getting the map out to plan your upcoming adventures. Patio doors from the main living area open to a securely enclosed garden where your pet can run free. A convenient utility room contains a washing machine and space for your outdoor gear. Further down the hall, the sleeping quarters consist of two double bedrooms – one with its own en-suite shower room – plus a single bedroom and a family bathroom.

In mild weather, make the most of the garden which encompasses a patio area overlooking a budding orchard. There’s also ample space nearby for children to explore, with expansive open fields and the chance to discover more about the day-to-day operations of a real working farm – if it’s the right time of year, they can even feed the lambs.

In Forth (1 mile) you’ll find a shop, a pub and a chippie where you can pick up a yummy dinner if you don’t fancy cooking.

History aficionados will love discovering the area’s mining heritage, perhaps visiting the Wilsontown Ironworks Heritage Project (2.5 miles). And if you’re into off-road cycling, the local trails present a perfect opportunity to explore the area trails on two wheels.

Further afield, you can while away an afternoon at one of the many local country parks such as Chatelherault (17 miles), which contains an 18th-century hunting lodge, 500 acres of woodland and parkways and 10 miles of routed pathways. Polkemmet Country Park (9.5 miles), another popular site for nature lovers, is a haven of wildlife with roe deer, fox, heron, water voles, bats and badgers all making their home here. There’s also a golf course here and another in Carluke (12 miles).

Keen for a dose of urban excitement? Glasgow and Edinburgh are both only around 27 miles away offering an array of shopping, dining and nightlife options.
