Switch off from the humdrum of everyday life in this rural bolthole on the north-west coast of the Isle of Arran. Enjoy picturesque walks from your front door, along the coastal path or in the surrounding hills. The pretty pebble beach in Pirnmill is 300 metres away and is a lovely spot for a picnic. In the evenings, sip a sundowner on the front patio overlooking the bay.

The rustic retreat has a contemporary style, with neutral tones and sleek furniture, yet still retains its period charm. The cottage has a home-away-from-home feel, with cosy soft furnishings and cute accessories. Large windows let in plenty of natural light and frame idyllic coastal views across the Kilbrannan Sound.

Step through the front porch and into the spacious lounge/diner. Stretch out on the comfortable sofas in front of the Smart TV and, on chilly evenings, fire up the wood burner to create a cosy atmosphere. This room opens into a formal dining room, with an elegant wooden table to seat all six guests. The sleek kitchen is a real joy to cook in, boasting spectacular sea views from the window by the sink. A welcoming king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room completes the ground floor.

Upstairs, discover two light and bright bedrooms – a king-size and a twin – both decorated in calming tones for a good night’s rest. A family bathroom completes this fabulous holiday home.

Outside, unwind on the front, enclosed patio with a glass of wine at the end of the day, admiring the tranquil views over the bay. To the rear of the cottage is a tiered garden with steps and mature shrubs. This space isn’t suitable for unsupervised small children, however there is ample space for them to play on the front lawned area.

The quaint village of Pirnmill is full of Scottish charm, with a cute village store and a popular restaurant (you’ll find more eateries and a distillery in the nearby village of Lochranza, 6.5 miles away). There’s also a pretty pebble beach for morning walks and sunset strolls. Overlooking the village is the Pirnmill Hills, where a gentle climb will reward you with panoramic views across the island and the Kintyre Peninsula.

The Isle of Arran is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with a plethora of varied walking routes across its mountain peaks, sheltered beaches, and verdant forests. Alternatively, stride out along the Arran Coastal Way, which circumnavigates the island, for spectacular views and wildlife watching opportunities. Local outdoor adventure companies offer a whole host of activities to get the adrenaline flowing, including kayaking, scuba diving, gorge walking, and paddleboarding. The highest peak on the island – Goatfell – is 15.5 miles away, and is a must for keen walkers with a head for heights.

The Isle of Arran has a rich and varied history, and you don’t have to travel far to find evidence of this. The fascinating Neolithic site at Machrie Standing Stones (9 miles) is a must for the itinerary, and offers the chance to see stone circles, burial cairns, and cists dating back over 4,500 years! Alternatively, spend an adventure-filled day at Brodick Castle (16 miles). Take an interactive tour of the baronial fortress, before wandering around the stunning gardens or investigating the excellent adventure play area.

The cottage feels like home (or maybe better!) Very comfortable, fully equipped, clean and cosy. It was so nice, we would have liked to stay longer. It's very close to the sea and our children spent a lot of time looking for special pebbles, of which there are plenty (before we went home they had to return them all to the beach). Outside all one heRead morears are the sea, the birds and the nearby streamlet. There are nice walks to be made in the vicinity and the village shop has most things you need. Hide
