This stunning Edwardian home is built from attractive pink granite and approached along a private lane. It’s located within the hamlet of Strathdon in the eastern Cairngorms and boasts space for 14 guests, making it wonderful for a trip with extended family or groups of friends with or without their children. You’ll be surrounded by the best of rural Scotland – rolling hills, rugged glens, rivers and lochs – making it wonderful for lovers of the great outdoors. You can even go skiing in winter.
In keeping with its period roots, this spacious home is decorated in a sleek traditional style, with plenty of wood, neutral browns and stag heads adorning the walls. Plush soft furnishings, antiques, wood panelling and sturdy furniture all contribute to create a regency-inspired interior. Please note, dogs are only allowed in the kitchen – they’ll have their own insulated kennels to snooze in for guaranteed canine cosiness.
Upon arrival, the side entrance from the parking area leads into a small cloakroom and utility for drying wet jackets and storing muddy boots. The well-equipped kitchen includes modern appliances and an electric range-style cooker so you can cook up hearty group meals, with dining space for six (great for quick breakfasts). Or, if you fancy a night off cooking, a local caterer is available for hire. The main living spaces include a comfortable sitting room with a fireplace, a cosy snug, and an impressive formal dining room where you can all dine like royalty. You’ll also have a games room with a billiards table for friendly competition – why not set up a holiday tournament? A convenient WC completes the downstairs space.
The seven spacious bedrooms are all on the first floor – one super-king-size, two king-size, one twin and one bunk room with four beds which is ideal for children. Each room offers a peaceful retreat with plenty of natural light and storage space. Four of the bedrooms share Jack-and-Jill bathrooms with roll-top baths (great for holiday soaks) and hand showers. Guests in the other rooms can make use of a family bathroom with a shower over the bath and an additional shower room with WC.
Outside, you’ll have a private enclosed garden with furniture and BBQ so you can make the most of the weather. A spacious driveway provides ample parking for six vehicles. The surrounding estate sets you up for easy exploration without even having to leave the grounds – film fans may recognise parts of it from the 2018 film, Mary Queen of Scots.
