Enjoy every moment of your fairytale escape in this regal castle home in Ayrshire and Arran. Located within a private 600-acre estate, you can spend leisurely mornings wandering the enchanting grounds, skimming stones at the nearby loch or tucked away in one of the cosy nooks of your castle wing. Should you be able to tear yourself away from your beautiful holiday home, the town of Kilmarnock is only 3.5 miles away and the area is home to more stunning country walks than you could possibly want.

Boasting a vast history, this superb Scottish castle is one of a kind. Owned by the same family for over 700 years, you are invited to share its intrigue and romance - the family will happily show you around the estate sharing fascinating tales before you return to relax in your private wing. The perfect combination of authentic, quirky and oh-so comfortable, means your whole family will find something to fall in love with. And, with space for up to 16 people and two dogs, no one will be left behind.

As soon as you step through the hall’s stone archway into the wing, you will immediately feel the uniqueness of this castle. Arranged over several floors, the ground floor is home to a cosy den with mountains of books and a multi-purpose games table as well as the kitchen, dining room and utility room. On the first floor, the drawing room is a lovely place to gather and complete with large windows, a marble fireplace, open fire and an array of entertainment. On this floor you will also find a family bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Halfway up the stairs of the first floor, you will come to a super-king-size bedroom (with a romantic wood burner and a roll-top bath positioned in a private window recess) while on the first floor itself you will discover three more bedrooms, including a split-level bedroom. Up on the second floor, you will reach a zip-and-link double (which can be made into a twin upon request) with a large sofa bed, and on the third floor you will find a twin zip-and-link with another sofa bed. The cherry on the cake at the top of the tower, this final bedroom is accessed via a spiral staircase and boasts incredible views, not to mention a TV and PS3 game station – perfect for children!

There to be enjoyed whatever the season and whatever the time, the castle’s 600 acres are a paradise for walkers of all ages, two-legged and four. To make your stroll a little easier, wellies and a pushchair are thoughtfully provided. Once you’ve had your fill of walking, take a seat outside and crank up the BBQ, ready for a dinner alfresco.

We loved our stay at the castle. Beds were super comfortable and whilst it is grand, it still felt very homely. Lairds Table breakfast was also excellent with a gorgeous view of the lake. The grounds were beautifully kept.

What a great find. This wonderful property absorbed eight adults, six children aged 9 down to 2 and an ageing dog easily. Comfortable beds, seats and rooms. Well appointed kitchen ( 2 dishwashers a bonus) and the entrance hall was a great place to remove outdoor clothing and footwear. We appreciated meeting our hosts early on and knew they were aRead morelways on hand if any problems arose. Freedom to roam the woodlands around the castle, build dens, ride bikes was great for energetic youngsters - entertainment at no extra cost. The Dean Country Park nearby was also a beautifully maintained facility to visit, whilst the beaches nearby offered hours of exploration. Culzean Castle, Dumfries House, Burns Museum in a 30 - 40 minute radius ( plus the Electric Brae) were all on standby as entertainment but remained unused as the grounds of Craufurdland provided so much.Highly recommended Hide
