A home-from-home cottage with a hot tub in a pretty garden, this delightful escape is ideal for a romantic retreat or a restorative solo getaway. It’s located in Scotland’s National Book Town, and is a great base for scenic walks, days at the beach and dark-sky stargazing.
The intimate cottage feels warm and inviting from the moment you step into the vestibule and kick off your shoes. In the stylish lounge, vintage-inspired furnishings, shelves full of books and a roaring fire create a relaxed atmosphere, and there’s a Smart TV in case you need extra entertainment. The pretty kitchen has plenty of space and provides everything needed for preparing delicious meals – perhaps using local produce picked up on your travels – including a range-style cooker and a handy air fryer. Sit down to enjoy every bite in the separate dining room, where you can linger as you listen to music from the record player or radio. Completing the ground floor is a charming shower room with WC. Upstairs, the super-king-size bedroom is just as enticing as the rest of the cottage, and features a useful en-suite WC. French doors in the kitchen allow fresh air and light to stream in on sunny days, and you can step straight out into the courtyard garden, where there’s space to unwind with a drink before sinking into the hot tub beneath the starry sky. Parking is on-street, subject to availability.
The heart of Wigtown is just 250 metres away, where you’ll find an array of book stores as well as other shops and places to eat and drink. More shops and eateries are available in the lovely market town of Newton Stewart, 7 miles away. Tour the Bladnoch Distillery (1.5 miles), or hike the trails of the Galloway Forest Park (8.5 miles).
