Thurso is a vibrant town with a good selection of traditional shops and eateries. The town is the surfing capital of the region, and is a popular spot for water sports enthusiasts. Known as the gateway to Orkney, it’s easy to hop on the ferry at Scrabster, 2 miles away, to spend a day pottering around the maritime town of Stromness. As well as Thurso Beach, you’ll also be close to Dunnet Bay (9 miles), with its white, sandy shores and popular walking routes to Dunnet Head.
