This baronial mansion sleeps ten guests across five magnificent bedrooms, offering guests a lavish yet utterly comfortable holiday retreat. The listed property has been carefully restored to its original grandeur, retaining features reminiscent of traditional Scottish castles, such as turrets and parapets. Set within 9 acres of garden lawns and woodland, the house overlooks the Moray Firth to the Black Isle, less than a mile from the pretty Highlands town of Alness in rural Ross-shire.

Each room has been carefully styled with classic furnishing and fabrics to maintain the character of the property, from elegant sweeping curtains to vintage rugs and antique furniture. A soothing colour pallet features throughout, with bursts of vibrant rich colours in the drawing room and Victorian-style tiling in the bathrooms. The house is made deliciously warm by oil central heating and open fires in most of the public rooms.

Accessorised with family portraits, hanging tapestries and wooden panelling, the great hall is a perfect example of Scottish hospitality, complete with a roaring fire. You’ll immediately want to sink into the comfortable sofas with a glass of locally distilled whisky, whilst keen musicians tap out a tune on the organ or piano. The kitchen is generously equipped for preparing a feast; you could even hire caterers for special occasions and entertain in style in the formal dining room. Finish with coffee in the grand drawing room or challenge your fellow guests to some healthy competition in the snooker room, which has a full-sized pool table and bar. Younger visitors may prefer to relax in the comfort of the TV room, which doubles as an excellent children’s room for games and play. There is also a sauna room with shower and WC.

Upstairs, the galleried landing leads to the  five cosy bedrooms, each one finished with magnificent attention to detail and period furniture. The bathrooms are equally as beautiful, with ornate tiling and quirky details. The master bedroom features a delightful en-suite bathroom and dressing room. The family room is also thoughtfully designed to accommodate younger guests, consisting of a double four-poster and twin beds, sharing a handy en-suite with a neighbouring double bedroom. There is an additional 2 double annex bedrooms that can be booked at an extra cost.

Sweeping lawns, immaculate gardens and ancient woodland surround the property, with access to an array of scenic walks along the riverbank. Sizzle up something special on the BBQ on lazy summer evenings, marvelling at the views across the Moray Firth whilst the children make use of the play equipment. Private parking is also available. Salmon and Trout fishing over two beats of the Averon River and Estuary can be arranged prior to arrival with the owner.

The accomodation was absolutely amazing and stunning, and I would highly recommend this property for a large family or friends wanting a gathering. The house is set in its large own private grounds which was perfect if you take your dogs. The kitchen is well equipped and there are supermarkets close by. We paid extra for the wood shed which was welRead morel worth it to have a log fire every evening. This property really did live up to our expectations and we will definitely return. Hide

Dalmore House was the perfect place to hold our mother's 90th birthday celebration as half of our family live in Alness. The house is beautiful and very well appointed; a wonderful mix of antique, quirky and comfort. I would certainly love to come back.

We had a wonderful time at Dalmore House. This was my third visit to the house and it was every bit as enjoyable and memorable as the last due. The location is a fantastic base for highlands, golf and whisky!
