Set in several acres of grounds on the edge of the picturesque village of Lochinver, this traditional three-bedroom cottage is ideal for families seeking a comfortable base from which to explore the Assynt Peninsula and the Sutherland coastline. Wander through the village, browsing the independent  stores and feasting on one of the famous Lochinver pies; watch the fishermen unload their catches at the busy harbour and pick up a souvenir in the Highland Stoneware pottery. Hire a kayak and take to the clear waters of Loch Inver (3 miles) for a paddle around the tiny islands that dot the loch or head inland for a hike up Stac Pollaidh (16.5 miles) to be rewarded with magnificent views across the Highlands.

This traditional white-washed cottage has a warm and welcoming feel to it, with soft neutral tones and wooden details to complement the surrounding open countryside. Stripped floors, exposed ceiling beams and a warming wood burner make the cottage an inviting space to relax in and forget the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Step through the front door and into the spacious lounge/diner where comfortable sofas invite you to sink into them after a long day of exploration. Light the wood burner and enjoy a leisurely meal at the dining table enjoying its gentle warmth. Pick up some local produce in the village to cook a great evening meal in the well-appointed kitchen. The first of the bedrooms is on this level, a cosy double with exposed beams.

Heading upstairs are a further two bedrooms, both with sloping ceilings, and the family bathroom. The charming twin bedroom enjoys countryside views, and there is a pretty double with en-suite shower room.

Outside, relax and unwind in the lovely grounds which extend to several acres. Younger guests will enjoy the play area. Unwind in the seating area with a glass of your favourite tipple or follow the paths that lead to a viewpoint for you to appreciate the spectacular surroundings.

Fantastic location ..but the cottage photo needs updating! Thanks to the deer fence the garden has now much grown so view of Suilven nearly obscured from bedroom by trees.. but that is good! You only need to walk up the little path in the garden to the bench or 5 minutes up the Ardloe path behind the Croft to see one of the most amazing skylines Read morein Scotland . Grocery shop just down the hill well stocked. We came by taxi and public transport and with the aid of local bus and Dial a Ride ( book in advance!) never ran out of wonderful gentle walks. As ex Munro baggers this suited our retirement holiday! Culag Woods and Little Assynt Estate run by a Community Trust so beautiful . We contacted the Assynt Field Club and joined them on a botany walk ..so interesting. Dont worry about the weather forecast..apart from the first day the predicted rain seldom came! Beware of ticks in the garden and other places. Hide

A well provisioned quiet and peaceful cottage. Really enjoyed seeing so many birds in the garden. And a badger! Great location to explore Assynt while having local amenities a short walk away.

Darrach cottage is in a fantastic location with easy access by car and a great walk to Achmelvich beach right from the door. The top floor gets very hot in hot weather if you forget to close the velux blinds. Nice and cool in the main bedroom downstairs.

A very comfortable cottage, secluded and the (little used) public footpath going past the property side did not intrude at all. There is lots of wildlife to see here and wild grounds to explore. Midges on still evenings and mornings so we couldn't always have the windows open. Hillside walks immediately behind the cottage and about a mile drive/walRead morek (downhill) into Lochinver, or 1/2 mile to nearest store at Inver park. Super place for a quite break, and is well set up for younger children. Hide

Four of us enjoyed our stay in Darrach Cottage. It is quite quirky. The bathroom and loo are up a steep and narrow staircase. It was heated by night store heaters and a multi fuel stove. The charcoal BBQ was really useful in the surprisingly good weather we had during our week stay in July
