Property code: OC-CA315

Wake up to spectacular views of Loch Ness and feel moved by the scenes that have provided the backdrop to stories of a mythical sea creature. This stunning stone cottage also overlooks the historic Urquhart Castle from its elevated and secluded position on 3 acres of land. This popular property has been used as a filming location for documentaries, appeared in design magazines and the area it's set on is under archaeological investigation by Historic Environment Scotland in Edinburgh. Experience the magic of Scotland from a cottage that is nothing short of extraordinary. It was the subject of a monster sighting and a two page spread in the Daily Mail as recently as May 2022.

Dressed in tartan and warm tones, this home is the wholesome haven you need after a day of exploring. The cottage contains some unique pieces of handmade furniture and décor: stag antler lamps, highland cow horns, railway carriage shelves, and old irons and pig hot water bottles, to name a few.

Downstairs is an open-plan kitchen/diner with a beautiful oak floor, exposed ceiling beams and a classic wood burner. The kitchen is equipped with a Rangemaster oven with induction hob, a deep Belfast sink and all the appliances you should need for whipping up both simple and fancy dinners. Dine at the table while the fire crackles and fills the room with a soft glow. The lounge area is the definition of cosy with comfortable couches to curl up on, an assortment of rare books, old-school board games and a brilliant collection of classic 30s to 90s Scottish movie DVDs to watch on the TV. There is also a large collection of old books on the surrounding area and Nessie.

Upstairs, both bedrooms offer unforgettable views that will wake you up quicker than a cup of coffee; at night, the castle is lit up, and the majestic scene fills the window. Each of the bedrooms has been sympathetically decorated retaining the traditional pointed stone walls as a feature while again exposing the wooden ceiling beams while the tartan curtains and lavish check-patterned bedding pay homage to the cottage’s Highland heritage.

The property’s grounds are scattered with unique gems like Avery weights, Highland scythes, plough, whiskey barrels, anvil, cart wheels and lobster creels as well as several viewing points to take in the panoramic view. Host a BBQ and dine out on the garden furniture as roe deer and pheasants go about their day around you.

  • 2 bedrooms - 2 doubles with some reduced head height in the eaves
  • 1 shower room - 2 access doors (1 door from hallway and 1 door from master bedroom), with shower and WC
  • Rangemaster oven and electric hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, Nespresso coffee machine and washing machine
  • 2 multi-fuel stoves with a starter pack of logs and peat provided
  • 1 TV in lounge, 1 TV in each bedroom
  • 25GB Wi-Fi  per week. Additional use will incur charges.
  • Private parking
  • Next to the cottage is a stone building which is an empty outbuilding, not a neighbouring house. Guests are welcome to use the raised patio area at the front of this building during their stay
  • Unenclosed garden
  • Shop, pub and restaurant within 2 miles
  • During the summer there is often a single 10 second fly past in the late morning from RAF Lossiemouth with a pair of Tornadoes, Typhoons or occasionally two Nimrods, all of which fly below the level of the property on their training runs
  • Short term licence - HI50641-F
  • EPC rating - E
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • Sorry, no dogs allowed

This is our second visit, we came 7 years ago and loved it. Beautiful cottage with some poignant history. Beautiful location with the best views we have ever experienced. Although we had initial problems with cleanliness, this did not detract from our stay. Kevin who met us was lovely and helpful. Clean cosy cottage with outstanding views across Loch Ness. Fully equipped, perhaps another armchair in the living room would be beneficial for parties of four. Most attractions reachable within an hour of driving, most helpful manager in Kevin.

This house is even lovelier in reality than in the photos. Everchanging light over the lake and the many different viewpoints and benches in the garden made it so magic.
