  • Sleep in Bonnie Prince Charlie's bedroom and enjoy wonderful views across to Ben Nevis from the living room
  • Ideal for adventurous groups, situated near the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK'
Property code: OC-CA139

This beautiful old house with views of Ben Nevis, sleeping ten guests and two dogs across six bedrooms, has a place in Scottish Jacobite history. Bonnie Prince Charlie, after raising his standard at Glenfinnan in 1745, stayed overnight in the house and in the morning plucked a white rose from a bush at the front of the property and attached it to his bonnet. The rose became his emblem and the symbol for the Jacobite cause, ‘The White Cockade’. The holiday let is full of character with a traditional feel and pretty fireplaces and furnishings. Set in Fassfern, 9 miles from Fort William, this house is perfect for large families or friends looking for a quiet rural holiday while still having access to shops and leisure facilities.

Step into the property and you’re welcomed by bright and airy rooms that have country-style decor and furnishings, creating a special feel. Artwork that fits the style of the house is dotted throughout, and rich woods and soft lighting make it an extremely comfortable place to relax in after a day out in the countryside.

The drawing room is a cosy haven to snuggle up in during the evenings, with comfy deep sofas to sink into in front of the open fire. If there’s a musician in the family, crowd around the grand piano to have a sing-song. The kitchen has a quaint country feel with a Rangemaster cooker – enjoy cooked meals in the beautiful dining room. Guests of all ages will delight in the games room that houses a snooker table and a bookcase with lots of titles.

Upstairs, the bedrooms lend a tranquil feel to your stay; elegant old furniture and lovely fabrics make them a peaceful place to retreat to at the end of the day. Both double bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, the further double bedroom is spacious and includes a wash basin. The cosy single room has access to a shower room. The west wing has two twin bedrooms along with two bathrooms.

The property is set within 22,000 gorgeous acres. Wander the grounds with your dogs and feel like you’re truly away from it all – but listen out for the Jacobite steam train that you can see from the end of the estate. Enjoy an al fresco drink on the garden furniture to make the most of the sun. There is a lockable door between this property and the adjoining cottage, which can also be booked to bring the total capacity of the house to 14. There are a further two cottages, sleeping four and two, also on the estate.

The cottage was excellent value for the money; the cottage was fully equipped both for cooking and for doing any washing; bedrooms were comfortable and spacious; would have no reservations in recommending Fassfern House for a Highland getaway.

Fassfern House, is a spacious, well decorated, clean, comfy place. Well situated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a rainy week, so a brilliant place to chill out and come back to, after a wet day - the house has an excellent drying room! We highly recommend a stay here, and will be booking it again, next year.

A beautiful house in a lovely location. A party of eleven family & friends hired the house & cottage for which it was perfect.
