The serenity is unparalleled in this Scottish sanctuary on the South Rhins Peninsula, a fantastic destination for two to escape to in search of long hikes, rewarding nature trails and coastal adventures. Discover the tranquil beauty of Luce Bay, admiring the sandy shoreline and remote, rugged coastline via the Ardwell Bay Circular Walk. Make your way along the shoreline down to Drummore (6.5 miles), an endearing village with a stunning beach and sea views that stretch as far as the distant hills of the Lake District National Park. From here, tackle a countryside hike through rolling fields to Castle Clanyard (7 miles). An unmissable attraction during your stay has to be the southernmost point of the Rhins of Galloway, namely the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse (11.5 miles). This fantastic attraction offers panoramic views from the very top, alongside an RSPB Nature Reserve that acts as a wildlife lover’s delight.

This stone-built gatehouse property has a real chocolate-box appeal from the outside, so take in the picturesque surroundings before stepping inside. Indoors, the decor has been kept simple and traditional, with comfort at its core. Make your way into the lounge-come-dining room, a cosy space with an open fire ready to add a warm glow to any evening. The dining table has been positioned beside the window to offer breakfast with a view, while a combination of sofa, armchair and TV/DVD player creates a restful space for the evenings. Next door, the kitchen is fully fitted and spacious enough for all your meal preparation. Also on this floor, the king-size bedroom is generously sized and comfortable, complete with a dressing area, plenty of storage and a TV for movie nights in bed. A traditional bathroom completes the interior, offering a refreshing shower in the morning or a bubbly soak late at night.

Alongside private parking, you’ll find an enclosed outdoor seating area directly outside the lodge, complete with a decked terrace and comfortable chairs for sitting back and admiring the view. A peaceful relaxing holiday. Everything we needed

A lovely little cottage with a nice enclosed garden with plenty wildlife to see. While we were there a fault developed with the fire alarm system, the landlord had it fixed the same morning. There did not seem to be a hair drier provided.

Situation on busy road not great

A beautiful little cottage in a lovely location in the grounds of Ardwell house and just across the road from the sea. We were allowed to walk around the grounds, which were lovely. We saw a deer there on one occasion. The road is close by but didn't bother us at all as there was very little traffic. We loved the area, very quiet and remote. The kiRead moretchen could do with a few more utensils, and in particular a bread knife, but other than that, it was perfect! Hide

We loved the location in the woods watching all the birds and red squirrels. Unfortunately the track across the field to the beach was too rough for my husband, but he was able to use his mobility scooter in the woods and round the gardens. We even went part way round the lake which isnt recommended for disabled folk, my husband just cant walk veryRead more far so uses his mobility scooter like a tractor! Hide

Another great holiday at East Lodge. Very comfortable and well equipped cottage. Lovely walks round the Ardwell estate.

The cottage was in a lovely position on the edge of the estate with miles of walks from the door. The view of the sea loch out of the cottage window was also a treat and the shore walks good. The cottage was warm, comfortable and very clean, with all the essentials that makes for a good self catering . We hope to visit again.

East Lodge, Ardwell, is a delightful location for a relaxed holiday. The lodge is comfortable and pleasantly fitted out and for our purposes it provided all that we desired for a very enjoyable visit. It is in a relatively isolated position so on our way to the property we collected sufficient provisions to be self catering although there is a verRead morey good restaurant about a mile away. As we were visiting in November, we anticipated cold weather and thoroughly enjoyed having a wood fire in the evenings as well as having the central heating at other times. The beds were very comfortable and warm, the living/dining room allowed us splendid coastal views, and the kitchen was well kitted out for us to prepare whatever meals we fancied and looked into the garden with its bird feeders which were eagerly used by several bird species as well as a number of the local red squirrels - great entertainment. The 'Murder stone' just alongside the garden was an interesting feature and is explained in the lodge information folder. It was great to explore the estate of Ardwell House and there are numerous obvious paths which can be followed. Although we were out of season and the walled garden was closed, the estate gardener did open the gate for me to view the garden. Several marked paths direct one to interesting parts of the estate and Ardwell Church is a lovely building and from there one can do a cross country walk to Ardwell village and the coast. Wildlife along the coastal mudflats is abundant and the coastal sunrises were often spectacular. The lodge is a perfect location to explore the Mull of Galloway and the Rhins Peninsula and it is well worth visiting some of the historical sites signposted locally as well as the local towns and gardens. At different times of year the rhododendron displays would be fantastic and we certainly have intentions of returning in the near future. Hide

Another great holiday in Ardwell east lodge. Such a comfortable house with everything you need and a lovely garden with red squirrels and lots of birds coming to the feeders. Lots of beaches and interesting places to visit nearby.
