Charming private wing of a magnificent Scottish Baronial Mansion, perfect for a romantic getaway. Located amid beautiful, landscaped gardens within easy reach of the historic town of Langholm.

Luxuriate in a stay in your own wing of a splendid country home, approximately 2 miles from Longholm, close to the Scottish borders. Wander the glorious gardens at the former baronial mansion or relax quietly in the indoor courtyard. Sleeping two people, and also welcoming one of their four-legged friends, this one-bedroom holiday home, set within the magnificent building, offers accommodation across two storeys. Head out from here on walks through the Esk Valley; follow a section of the scenic Southern Upland Way and make trips out to see picturesque beauty spots within the area.

Cross the courtyard and make your way into your private section of the hall. Find yourselves in a kitchen/diner, where there is everything you need to help you prepare romantic dinner for two with the fresh, Scottish produce you have sourced on your trips out. Lay the table in here or out in the courtyard perhaps to enjoy your meals together or take a few minutes to yourself with your book on the sofa in the kitchen/diner. Find the Victorian-style bathroom at this level too.

Make your way up to the first floor to discover the main lounge. Gaze out from here across the landscaped gardens or settle down together in front of the Smart TV to catch up on your favourite television programmes. At the end of each exhilarating day, wander on through to the comfortable, king-size bedroom. Enjoy a good night’s sleep then wake up to take in the early morning views out over the grounds.

Head out into the gorgeous garden whenever the weather is fine. Fire up the BBQ and enjoy supper out in the fresh air. Stroll through the grounds as the sun goes down. Find a handy boot room off the courtyard and plenty of parking at the house.

  • 1 bedroom - king-size

Venture into Langholm, the birthplace of poet Hugh MacDiarmid, to potter in the shops or to sit down to a bite to eat in a pub or café. While you are here, follow the MacDiarmid Trail to the MacDiarmid Memorial. Go to the farmers’ market at the Buccleuch Centre and arrange a permit to go salmon fishing in the River Esk.

Walk 4.5 miles to see Gilnockie Tower, a 16th-century tower house, thought to have been attacked during a raid by the English. Head 15 miles to Gretna, famous for being the marriage capital of the UK. Go shopping here, dine out and visit the Devil’s Porridge Museum, which commemorates HM Factory Gretna, once the largest munitions factory in the world.

Travel approximately 7.5 miles to reach the Kielder Forest Park, just over the border in England. Wander through the enormous forest and around the largest man-made lake in northern Europe. Follow cycle trails and foot paths and look out for an array of wildlife.

Drive approximately 20 miles from your holiday home to reach Hadrian’s Wall. Hike a section of the wall, which runs for 84 miles from coast to coast across northern England, and dates back to AD122.
