Enjoying a peaceful rural location on the edge of bustling Dumfries, this one-bedroom period property is perfect for couples seeking a romantic retreat, complete with private hot tub. Stroll the quaint streets of historic Dumfries (2.5 miles) and admire the view of the River Nith from Devorgilla Bridge, the oldest arched bridge in Scotland. Enjoy a round at one of the many nearby golf courses or lace up your walking boots for a tramp through the Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve (6.5 miles), home to wildfowl, wading birds and natterjack toads.

Sitting in a delightful courtyard setting, your single storey semi-detached cottage offers spacious accommodation decorated in a palette of warm tones with wooden floors, creating a welcoming and homely environment. Light the wood burner and dine in front of its soothing warmth before heading outside to soak in your private open-fronted housed hot tub.

The area surrounding your cottage is a joy for outdoor enthusiasts with excellent walking and cycling routes in the immediate vicinity, including the Maidenbower Walk running past the doorstep. Follow in the footpath of poet Robbie Burns as you take the circular Burn's Walk from the heart of Dumfries, along the tranquil banks of the River Nith to the statue of Burns in front of Greyfriars Church. Explore the Forest of Ae (12.5 miles) by foot or pedal. Weave your way through the towering Norway spruce trees to seek out the red squirrels springing from branch to branch or herons dipping their beaks in the burn. Hop in the saddle for a leisurely ride through the forest in search of the best vantage point across the canopy or for a white-knuckle mountain bike adventure, try one of the 'orange' runs for steep descents and multiple jumps.

Spend your days discovering some of the wonderful beaches that dot the 200 miles of coastline along the Soway Firth from sandy beaches to hidden shingle coves. Walk the wide sandy beach at Southerness (17 miles) to reach the 18th century lighthouse, the second oldest in Scotland. Investigate the rockpools and mudflats for wildlife and keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of dolphins and porpoises in the water.

Venture further afield for a day of water sports on Loch Ken (28 miles). Try your hand at kayaking, sailing or stand-up paddle boarding. During the summer months challenge each other on the wobbly waterpark as you slip, slide and scramble along the inflatable obstacle course. If you're feeling adventurous, strap yourself in for a thrilling ride across the loch on the zip wire.
