This well-appointed house has a bright and cheery decor throughout, with bright and clean colours creating a truly pleasant place to stay. Enjoy remarkable, far-reaching views out to the surrounding countryside and relax in this contemporary home decorated to the highest standard.

Enter this period cottage through the bright garden, heading straight into the first of two lounges. This comfy living room boasts a TV with DVD for relaxing together on an evening. Alternatively, head through to the second lounge and enjoy a glass of Scotch in front of the warming wood burner. Wander through into the study, which offers excellent country views. The second lounge doubles up as a handy dining room, perfect for enjoying lazy breakfasts on cool winter mornings. Completing this floor is a well-equipped kitchen for preparing meals and a handy utility room for storing outdoor equipment and muddy outerwear.

Upstairs, up a set of curved cottage-style stairs, two bedrooms both boast large king-size beds and an abundance of wardrobe space for storing clothes throughout your stay. Wake up to wonderful views each morning and go to sleep under a cosy tartan blanket at night.

Find enclosed gardens to the rear and front of this lovely home, enjoying privacy in this secluded location. Both gardens offer seating areas, and you can enjoy BBQ and al fresco dining in the good weather.

Explore the local area, where rugged countryside welcomes unique wildlife such as Roe deer, red squirrels and red kite, and minimal light pollution ensures a fabulous sky full of stars each night. The area is perfect for nature photographers, artists or anyone looking for a true escape to nature.

Head to the Cairngorms National Park for plenty of outdoor pursuits, accessible just 15 miles away and perfect for an abundance of walks. For a walking route with stunning views, head to Scolty Hill (20 miles). This steep walk leads to a tower with a spiral staircase. Head to the top and enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, or get lost in the nearby woodlands.

Head to the local town of Montrose (13 miles) for an enjoyable trip to the beach, where bright sandy shores offer a great space to relax, and a beachside café and kids water play area makes for an excellent afternoon in the sun. There's also another beautiful beach at St Cyrus (13 miles), boasting imposing cliffs, vast sand dunes and a wonderful selection of birds and local butterflies.

Staying closer to home, the village of Edzell (4 miles) is well worth a visit. This village boasts a handful of local pubs and a vast medieval castle with beautiful gardens to tour. The area also offers a golf club for whiling away an afternoon on an 18-hole course.

A wonderfully comfortable, spacious and well equipped cottage in a beautifully quiet location. The owners had thought of everything. They left a lovely welcoming package, flowers and even fresh eggs from their own hens.

Grampian Cottage was a wonderful find, clean, warm and peaceful. The welcome pack from the owner was well stocked and generous. Edzell and Fettercain were not places we knew of before our stay but we will definitely be back in this beautiful part of Scotland.

We have just had a wonderful week at Grampian Cottage. There was nothing that wasn't provided for, it was very comfortable and very clean. The enclosed garden was fantastic for our 2 dogs, and the dog towels provided were such a help. The welcome basket was the best we've had and included dog treats. Even the bunch of flowers on the kitchen window Read morecill was a lovely touch. Our hosts were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you if you needed them. Highly recommended Hide

We had a really lovely week at the cottage which was clean and had everything you needed. Owners are great and very helpful, let us a lovely hamper and flowers as a welcome gift. Both gardens were great for the dog. Very well situated for access to places like Stonehaven, Montrose, Brechin, Forfar & Dundee.

The owners provided a comprehensive welcome pack with the addition of an unlimited supply of wood for the wood-burning stove - much appreciated with the very wet weather. Our dog was welcomed too, with treats, dishes, poo bags and bed provided, although we brought a cage as she likes to sleep on our bed at home! This was a lovely property and Kate was very welcoming and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. Was lovely to see rabbits and bats in the garden most days and had a close encounter with a deer on our first night just round the corner. Spotlessly clean and well-presented accommodation in quiet location with plenty of interesting sites within easy travelling distance. Beds were comfortable and cottage was well-equipped with hairdryer, iron, board games, barbecue, camping chairs etc and nice welcoming touches, such as hamper and flowers.
