You might even follow one of the walking or cycling routes from the property to explore a little further afield. Despite the rural location, you are only 4 miles from the bustling market town of Annan, once famous for industries such as shipbuilding, engineering and distilling. Today, you can wander around its shops and enjoy a bite to eat in one of its cafes and restaurants.

This unique, detached property has a contemporary country cottage-style with large windows allowing light to bounce off the walls to create a bright and spacious feel, further enhanced by vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. The three bedrooms are all on the same floor of this single-storey property. The spacious super king-size master bedroom (can be made up as twins on request) has views of the gardens and a luxurious en-suite shower room. There is also an immaculately-presented twin room and a double room, which share the family bathroom.

Outside, you will find a patio area for al fresco dining and a privately housed hot tub – the perfect way to begin or end your day.

This area of southern Scotland boasts a variety of landscapes from the rocky coastline and secluded coves and beaches overlooking the Solway Firth, to the woodland and rolling hills further inland. There are a number of cycling and walking trails nearby including the Solway Coast Heritage Trail which leads you along the coast and shows off some of its best landmarks and sights along the way. For thrill-seekers both young and old, there is plenty to do near this property. Within 20 miles, you will find one of the 7Stanes world-class mountain biking centres, which cater for all abilities.

For history lovers, visit the town of Dumfries (12.5 miles) which boasts plenty of historic charm and quirkiness and is famous for being the home of Scotland's famous poet, Robert Burns. Its link to literature is shown in its most recent attraction, The National Centre for Children's Literature and Storytelling.

Other pretty towns worth a visit are Lockerbie (12 miles) and delightful Gretna 14 miles away. Caerlaverock Castle (10 miles) is also interesting as you discover the bloody border battles that went on in medieval times. You can also visit local gin and whisky distilleries nearby, including Annandale Distillery (6 miles).

We loved our holiday to Kinmount Garden Cottage. So peaceful and relaxing we feel like we've had a real escape. It sits in an amazing estate steeped in history surrounded by beautiful woodland including a lovely lake. The owners were extremely welcoming and on hand should you need any assistance. The cottage has lots of space, tastefully decorated Read moreand extremely comfortable. Everything you need has thoughtfully been provided for self catering. We fully intend to visit here again. Fabulously situated beautiful cottage, spacious and at the same time cosy. Just back from a week where 6 adult members of family were all able to enjoy great times together, with of course the hot tub being a major hit. Would thoroughly recommend this for really relaxing holiday in stunning setting. Looking forward to a return visit.

Beautiful spacious cottage. Ideal for our family. Loads of room. Excellent owners, Fiona was brilliant and sorted everything out straight away. Great base for exploring. Hot tub was great to relax in after days out with the children. Lovely to sit outside for meal times and enjoy the peace and quiet.

We visited with our adult children and two dogs. The property had fantastic grounds to explore and plenty of space for everyone. The floors are wooden or tiled so its very dog friendly . The pool table, hot tub and out door seating made for a perfect holiday.
