This beguilingly spacious romantic holiday retreat is situated in a picturesque Scottish Borders town and offers cosy and inviting accommodation for up to four guests. Stylishly furnished and imaginatively decorated in warm and restful tones throughout, the property makes for a fantastic getaway for couples, families or a group of friends looking for a quiet spot in the delightful Royal and Ancient Burgh of Lauder.

Complete with a summer house and a large, enclosed mature garden, this wonderful dog-friendly property is ideal for a small family and makes a perfect retreat to unwind in at the end of a lovely day.

On entering this light, fresh and charming period cottage you will find the spacious and relaxing open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The pretty lounge is a perfect space to unwind in with plenty of comfortable seating, TV and floor-to-ceiling windows with French doors leading to the garden. The dining area is nicely situated and makes the perfect backdrop for a romantic meal or for grabbing a snack or breakfast, which you can prepare in the elegant and fully equipped kitchen. Exploring the ground floor further, there’s an additional, more intimate lounge where you can snuggle up and enjoy a favourite film or catch up with a good book. This lounge is coolly decorated and features a double sofa bed. Going upstairs the cosy and welcoming master bedroom features a king-size bed and a TV.

Stepping outside, the large garden is fully enclosed, making it ideal for children to play and for dogs to run about. There’s a lovely seating area perfect for nocturnal stargazing, a spot of al fresco dining or a glass of wine in the evening. At the end of the garden further seating is available in the charming summerhouse.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

The bustling town of Lauder has an array of excellent restaurants, shops and pubs to discover and is home to the magnificent 16th century Thirlestane Castle which plays host to a variety of major events including the Vintage Motor Extravaganza, the Scottish Championship Horse Trials and the Tour de Lauder. Local attractions include Mellerstain and Gardens (12.5 miles), Bank Street Gardens (10.5 miles), Old Gala House (11.5 miles) and Abbotsford – the home of Walter Scott (11.5 miles). There are a number of delightful towns to visit including Melrose (11 miles), Selkirk (16 miles) and Kelso (18 miles). The vibrant capital of Scotland is also within easy reach (27 miles). Anglers can try their hand at salmon and trout fishing on the River Leaden and River Tweed, and walkers, hikers and mountain bikers have plenty of trails to explore along the Lammermuir Hills and the Southern Upland Way. This is a fantastic area for keen cyclists, nature lovers and golfers, with a choice of great golf courses nearby including those at Lauder (1 mile), Torwoodlee (9 miles), Galashiels (10.5 miles) and Melrose (11.5 miles). Melrose is also home to attractions including Priorwood Garden, Harmony Garden and the Three Hills Roman Heritage Centre.

First class accommodation with everything that noned would need for a pleasant stay. Not a dog owner but large enclosed garden ideal for pets. On edge of small town with a good selection of eating places and shops. Will return.

The cottage was like a tardis, the pictures looked great but in person was even better. Kitchen was amazing and well equipped really a home from home. A perfect cottage in a lovely quiet location and absolutely ideal for our dog. The house had everything we needed and very well equipped. Beautiful walk along the castle grounds and forest and river. The Black Bull was a great place to eat. Weather wasnt great but this cottage was the perfect spot to cosy up. Id recommend to anyone.

The cottage is extremely well appointed and equipped to a very high standard. The garden is beautiful, a lovely tranquil place to sit out and relax (great for dogs too as it's fully enclosed). Great stay in a comfortable, well appointed cottage. As other guests have mentioned, the enclosed garden is fantastic - it was wonderful to hear so much birdsong! Lovely and easily accessible walks - our favourite was by the river in the Thirlstane Castle estate. Good Chippy and local hostelries. The cottage was spotless,and the garden a real treat ,especially as we had sunshine the whole of our stay First time we had stayed in this area, went to visit family and play golf. Shonas cottage is perfect in every way. Its 100% dog friendly with its fully enclosed garden. Our dogs loved it ! A well equipped kitchen & a lovely bathroom . Lots of things to see & do in the area. We will definitely be back as we would say Lammermuir is the loveliest cottage weve ever stayed in.

Best holiday cottage we have stayed in so far, lovely secure garden for the dog. Some lovely decorative touches which made it very welcoming. Went for a week on 13th March 2020 with our 2 dogs. The property was easy to find and there was parking just outside. Inside was lovely and clean and very spacious. The enclosed garden was a good size and safe for the dogs. Luckily we had some sun and was very nice to be able to sit in the garden. Despite rain, wind and snow the cottage was very warm, cosy and comfortable. A well equipped place particularly the kitchen.
