This semi-detached stone cottage located in Aberdeenshire is a wonderful romantic bolthole for a couple. Listen to the sound of the nearby river and walk alongside it to reach Edzell village.

This charming stone-built cottage near the pretty village of Edzell is the perfect bijou retreat for a couple seeking a romantic break close to the coast yet within easy reach of the southern tip of the Cairngorms.

Inside, this recently refurbished, single-storey cottage is bright and cheerful, with colourful furnishings. The stylish slate floor in the lounge/dining room/kitchen creates a suitably cottagey feel and the carpeted bedroom is cosy and welcoming.

Walking up the three steps to the front door, you are welcomed into the cottage by the small hallway which leads into the warm and welcoming, open-plan lounge/kitchen diner. With a soft, colourful sofa and coordinating rug at one end, and a dining/kitchen area at the other, this comfortable living space has everything you need. Rustle up a romantic meal for two before cosying up on the sofa to watch a film in the evening. The luxurious, king-size bedroom with its soft carpet and sumptuous bed linen ensures a blissful night’s sleep. In the morning, the sparkling en-suite bathroom has a superb walk-in shower to awaken your senses. Head into the kitchen for a cup of fresh coffee before heading out for the day.

Outside, there is a small bistro table for two. Sit and enjoy a drink together and admire the surrounding lush green gardens as you listen to the soothing sound of the nearby River North Esk.

The cottage is located just 1 mile from the picturesque village of Edzell, where there is a good selection of shops and places to eat. Just outside the village sit the ruins of Edzell Castle and its stunning garden. This uniquely beautiful formal garden is edged by a decorative wall with intricate sculptures and niches for nesting birds.

Those who love to walk will appreciate the proximity of Glenesk. From the front door, head down to the River North Esk where you can walk for miles along this picturesque glen. Alternatively, jump in the car and head towards beautiful Loch Lee (16 miles) in the Cairngorms. Park at Invermark Castle and enjoy a long walk around this scenic loch edged by spectacular mountains.

Just 13 miles away is the charming coastal town of Montrose, which, with its unique mud lagoon, known as the Basin, is a haven for birdlife all year round. Enjoy lunch and a leisurely wander around the old town, or if you have a craving for sea air, head down to the seafront for an invigorating walk along the beautiful, wide stretch of sand on Montrose beach.

Lovely place in a lovely location. We arrived late after replacing our car headlight bulb in sleeting 1 degree temperatures - the lights and heating were on for us which was very very kind. Loads on your doorstep with the Rocks of solitude walk only a minute or so away and Glen Esk a lovely drive. The DVD player broke and Chris responded immediatelRead morey with a replaceement. Hide

This cottage does not fail to deliver, the location is perfect for peace and quiet and long walks along a stunning river. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. We look forward to returning for a third time

Nice quaint place thats set below the B road, couldnt hear the road noises at all. Good place for taking a dog on a fireworks free getaway. Good walks nearby but limited as no Wi-Fi and weak mobile service for locating other walks nearby. Within driving distance to Edzell, Brechin, Montrose and Dundee, Forfar for doing grocery shopping. Cottage very cosy with almost everything you need and comfy bed and super shower plenty lovely walks with dog and although winter we scored with the weather and saw the Beech Wood at its finest with a carpeting of golden leaves underfoot . lovely cottage a couple of minutes from edzell, stunning setting with wildlife including red squirrels, cottage is small but has everything you need. only sounds at night was wildlife and the local river esk. great courtyard garden is a suntrap.

Lovely and secluded, spotlessly clean with all amenities you would expect. We enjoyed the walk to Edzell every day and the Rock of Solitude Walk. A great location for visiting busier places. We would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world, the garden is lovely to sit and read or just watch the clRead moreouds go by with a cup of tea or glass of wine. An idyllic spot with the woods, burn and private back yard. It was easy to get to lots of fantastic beaches and castles. I found the bed and chair really comfy. I have a bad back so preferred the firm chair to the sofa. Excellent shower. I was lucky to be there during a heatwave and having an elderly dog it was great to be able to come back to the Read morehouse and choose whether to sit outside or enjoy the relative cool indoors. Later on to be able to wander into the shaded woodland. Hide

Had a wonderful week here with the pup. Such a lovely cottage that feels so homely. The grounds are just beautiful. The walk along the river. So many walks and things to do nearby. Everything in the cottage was brilliant. Had everything we needed. And its just beautiful. Well be back.

This cottage is a little gem, I cant recommend it highly enough. Excellent value for money and perfectly located. We walked along the nearby river on one of the days, it was so picturesque. I would definitely stay here again.

Cottage was near to woods and beaches for dog walking, facilities were as expected and the cottage was clean and tidy on arrival, I met the owners briefly and they were very helpful, I will def return in the future, Instructions to find the Cottage were good and theres plenty of facilities nearby like shops etc

Had a great holiday with a mixture of culture and adventure. Visited Edinburgh & Dundee and took in Galleries, Museums and Gardens. Took a boat trip looking for Dolphins and other wild life. Found a great beach and nature centre nearby. Had a great road trip into the Cairngorms with breathtaking views and vistas. Add plenty of walking some just outRead moreside the door. We had a brilliant stay in The Littlest Gannochy. It was the perfect location for exploring a quiet and beautiful area, close to both the cairngorms and the coast. Our family stayed next door in Little Gannochy which worked really well and is also a lovely place to stay.
