Enjoying delightful views over Carlingwark Loch, this fresh and idyllic lodge makes a lovely holiday retreat for a family, group of friends or a couple. Set on the outskirts of the picturesque market town of Castle Douglas, this light and relaxing reverse-level property features a private hot tub and an enclosed balcony offering magnificent views. For larger parties, this property can be booked alongside the adjoining property, with interconnecting gates allowing access along the balconies and patio areas.

 

This stylish property has been beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished, making it a fantastic holiday base. Perfect for enjoying al fresco meals on the spacious, furnished balcony, the cottage is perfect whether you want to relax or explore this spectacular area.

 

Arriving at this lovely holiday property the hallway leads you through to the first of the two cosy bedrooms – a bright and attractive super-king-size zip-and-link room which features a TV/DVD, iPod dock and French doors leading out to the patio. A second bedroom features twin zip-and-link beds, a TV/DVD and iPod dock. The ground floor also offers a delightful bathroom and a utility room. Please request the bed make up at the point of booking.

 

Heading up to the first floor you will find the spacious and welcoming open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The lounge is an ideal space for sitting back at the end of a great day, with full-length bi-folding doors opening out onto the balcony with its splendid views over the loch and park. The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing meals which you can enjoy in the charming dining area or al fresco on the balcony. There’s also an attractive shower room on this floor.

 

Outside you will find the fully enclosed rear patio with the private hot tub, and there’s a lovely small enclosed front garden with furniture, a BBQ and bike storage. Off-road parking is available for two cars.

 

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

This is a fabulous base for up to four guests looking to explore this wonderful part of the Scottish countryside, with the beautiful Galloway Forest Park (15.5 miles) and the stunning coastline of the Solway Firth (13 miles) within easy reach. The lodge is set within the pretty 18th century market town of Castle Douglas which is a renowned Food Town with approximately fifty businesses producing or selling local food and drink. The Stewartry Agricultural Show takes place each August, and the town is a fantastic base for a variety of pursuits including walking, cycling and golf. You can also go boating on Carlingwark Loch, sample the wares at Sulwath Brewery (0.5 miles) or explore the beautiful Threave Garden and Estate (1.5 miles) and the 14th century Threave Castle on the River Dee (4 miles). Other local attractions include Bainloch Deer Park (13 miles), the Galloway Kite Trail (6 miles) and Galloway Activity Centre on the shores of Loch Ken (10.5 miles) which has a wide variety of activities for all the family including a climbing tower with zipwire, laser tag, archery and sailing. Heading south you can explore the Solway Firth, or visit bustling towns including Kirkcudbright (11 miles) and Dumfries (18 miles).

The levels of comfort and equipment of this property were outstanding. We were totally impressed with the care and expense that has gone in to preparing this property for renting. Cleanliness was faultless. The location was perfect with the town just a few moments away on foot and there was easy access by car to the rest of the area. This is a fabulous property, great location with all the mod cons. Lovely touch with the welcome pack abs surprise cake. Would definitely recommend booking and will be looking at booking again at some point.

We had a lovely time. The property was extremely comfortable. We loved the layout with lochside views from the balcony and hot tub close to the bedroom and bathroom. Its ideally located close to the town centre as well as lovely country walks.

Lovely lodge, great location for going out and about. Restaurants nearby for evenings out. The lodge had everything we needed, the hot tub was a bonus. On arrival there were flowers on the dining table, a cake and a little basket of essentials (tea, coffee bread, milk) which was a lovely touch. I would highly recommend this property.

Thoughtful touches enhanced this already wonderful accommodation, well placed to the edge of castle Douglas and with beautiful views. The property is in a great location with excellent views of the Loch. We arrived to a very well cleaned and equipped cottage. A concern was that we would need to sanitize and clean the lodge properly because of the COVID virus but the landlord already cleaning in place to deal with this concern. Had a lovely stay at the property and had an amazing meal at the kings arms. Pity we were there during covid and a lot of places closed but I a know there will be more to do when open. Lovely location, great for kids with the park and plenty of space for football.
