This quirky and unique former Post Office dating back to the 19th century is perfect for a family getaway, with raised balcony, hot tub and splendid loch and Munro views to enjoy.

This stylish property is set in Fearnan on the north shore of Loch Tay, with stunning views across the water to the mountains beyond. It’s a peaceful village that enjoys a slow pace of life, and therefore the property is suited to relaxed family get-togethers and quiet gatherings with friends. The property’s piece de resistance is the raised balcony overlooking the loch, where you can enjoy a wee sundowner after a day of sightseeing. Take a walk to the local beach which is perfect for family picnics in the sunshine. There are numerous waterside and woodland walks directly from your front door, or head to Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve (9 miles) for mountain hikes and breathtaking views.

The quirky former post office has a reverse-level layout, fully maximising the stunning views over the loch. There are little nods to the property’s postal past, including a fabulous original post box in the garden! The holiday home is decorated in a contemporary style of neutral tones and homely accessories, creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere.

As you step into the ground floor of the spacious, detached property, you’ll find a vestibule to store all your outdoor gear, followed by three pretty bedrooms: two doubles and a king-size. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities, and there’s also an additional WC on this floor. Completing the ground floor is the handy utility room.

Heading upstairs, you’ll find the two remaining bedrooms (a double and a twin), as well as the stylish family bathroom. The main living area is located on the first floor. This magnificent lounge/diner is bright and airy, thanks to the French doors leading out onto the balcony. Sumptuous sofas are arranged around a Smart TV, and there is a large dining table where you can gather for memorable mealtimes together. The fabulous kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, with everything you need to rustle up a tasty meal for the group and stunning views of the loch and Munros.

As well as the raised balcony, there’s an enclosed patio where you can spend evenings under the stars eating fresh food from the BBQ or toasting marshmallows around the firepit. Off-road parking is available for four cars.

  • 5 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 3 double beds, and 1 twin room

The scenery surrounding Loch Tay is simply stunning. You’ll be inspired to get out and explore, whether that’s on the water, in one of the nearby mountain ranges, or along one of the walking and cycling trails that circumnavigate the loch.

Head into Kenmore (3.5 miles) to investigate all the different outdoor activities that are available in the area. Adventure companies are dotted throughout the village, offering everything from sailing and water-skiing to fishing and golfing. The picturesque village has a number of wonderful restaurants serving a wide range of local produce. When in Kenmore, also make time to visit the Scottish Crannog Centre – it offers a fascinating insight into life on the loch over 2,500 years ago.

Tay Forest Park is a haven for walkers. The patchwork of forests across Highland Perthshire is home to a network of varied walking trails, offering unforgettable loch and mountain views. To get your bearings – and to experience panoramic views across Loch Tummel – journey to Queen’s View Visitor Centre (20 miles). There’s also a charming cafe here, too.

For walks in a contrasting landscape, head to Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve (9 miles). Here, you can climb to the summit of Ben Lawers, which is the highest mountain in the central Highlands. There are also a number of short nature trails in the area that are perfect for families and little explorers.

We were a family of 10 staying a week with 4 dogs. We had an amazing stay and loved the house and all the surrounding areas. Felt communication with owners was great before stay and if we had any issues. If large party staying whole week though felt freezer space was quite small. Didnt get use of hot tub due to weather unfortunately. Have mentionedRead more visibility to owners for hedge/tree at end of drive as doesnt help with trying to get out. The Old Post Office was a delightful place to stay. The views are lovely, the location convenient to so much of what the Highlands has to offer and the accommodation flexible and comfortable. The hot tub was wonderful: so relaxing after long days in the mountains.
