Once prepared, enjoy meals at the large table in the lounge/diner, complete with fantastic sea views. At the end of a long day on foot, relax and unwind on the inviting leather sofas, while canine companions warm up beside the roaring wood burner. Situated on the splendid harbour front in Portpatrick, this property is ideally located for exploring the Jewel in the Crown of Dumfries and Galloway. Home to pretty pastel-coloured houses, a small bay, several shops and eateries and a popular annual folk festival in September, this is a fantastic base from which to explore the western shore of the Rhins of Galloway. Once you have stocked up on supplies and browsed the local shops, take to the waters with a thrilling high-speed RIB boat trip, or opt for a more leisurely wildlife cruise to encounter seals and sea birds. While keen golfers will enjoy a day on one of the numerous 9 and 18-hole courses in the local area, walkers and mountain bikers will be delighted with Scotland’s longest coast to coast walk, the Southern Upland Way. Soak up some local history with a visit to the remains of Dunskey Castle (1.5 miles), explore Killantringan Lighthouse (4 miles) or take to the wonderful Logan Botanic Gardens (16 miles), a paradise of plant treasures from South and Central America, Southern Africa and Australasia. Once you have finished exploring this stretch of coastline, head north to Cairnyan to catch the ferry across to Belfast (14 miles) and start a new adventure.

The cottage was lovely with great views over the sea and the log burner on a chilly night adds to its charm. Lovely garden to the back would be great on a summer night. Fully enclosed. The cottage was very clean and fully equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Thanks for a lovely holiday.

Cottage was very clean but is looking a bit tired now inside. Location is excellent but cottage does not do it justice, did not make us feel comfortable. Shame, but it needs to be improved before we would stay again.
