This wonderful period detached cottage, is nestled in a tranquil rural setting amid the stunning scenery of the Stinchar Valley. Within easy reach to beautiful sandy beaches and all local amenities.

Located in a beautiful rural area, this wonderfully spacious 18th-century one-bedroom cottage is situated on the outskirts of the peaceful village of Colmonell. For couples seeking a rural retreat, there are walks from the front door for countryside walks along quiet lanes and bridleways. Enjoy riverbank walks through the Strinchar Valley or climb to the top of Knockdolian Hill (4 miles) for panoramic views across the whole valley. You’re not completely cut off from the outside world though, the coastal village of Ballantrae (7 miles) offers shops, restaurants and welcoming pubs.

Your single-storey white-washed cottage in the Strinchar Valley has a charming traditional feel with rich tones and wood burner. Surrounded by open countryside, enjoy views of the gardens and hills from many of the rooms. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy watching the red squirrels and wild birds that frequent the garden.

Step through the front door of your cosy cottage and you will find spacious accommodation, tastefully decorated in warm tones. Prepare hearty meals in the generous kitchen where you can dine with views of the pretty garden. Relax in the inviting lounge where plump sofas wait for you to snuggle up in them and enjoy the countryside views. Unwind in the gentle heat from the wood burner with a dram of whiskey. When it’s time for bed, your king-size bedroom is a restful space here you can drift off to sleep as the embers glow in the wood burner.

Sit in your enclosed garden and watch the wildlife as you sip your morning coffee. In the evening, light the BBQ for an al fresco meal before lying back and watching the stars in the clear skies above.

The area surrounding the cottage is a haven for nature lovers, with walks through the stunning Strinchar Valley and along the river looking for herons, hares and even the occasional otter.

Ballantrae (7 miles) has a small supermarket and a choice of bars and restaurants. Step onto the Ayrshire Coastal Path for a day spent walking the spectacular coastline or stroll up to the ruined Ardstinchar Castle for stunning views along the estuary. Enjoy a shoreline stroll along the 2-miles of sandy beach at Ballantrae or head out of the village to discover the cannibals' cave at the rugged Sawney Bean's Beach (5 miles).

Hop onboard a pleasure cruise from Girvan Harbour (11.5 miles) to Ailsa Craig Island, home to the third largest colony of gannets in Britain, as well as puffins, guillemots and razor bills. Spot seals and porpoises as you journey across the waves to the island. Visit the Stumpy Tower, originally the town jail and now home to 4 floors of exhibits and artwork.

Take the time to explore the Galloway Forest Park (20 miles) for woodland walks, challenging mountain bike trails and lochside meanders. Take the scenic route from Glentrool to Loch Trool (22 miles) and discover one of the Bruce's Stones on the edge of the loch. The Forest Park was the first Dark Sky Park in the UK where you can see over 7000 stars and planets visible to the naked eye. Stop at one of the three visitor centres or find your favourite viewing point observe the firmament.

Our 3rd visit here. We love the peace and quiet location and wildlife right on the doorstep, while also being a short 10-15 minute drive to the beach to walk the dog.

The quiet, cosy cottage is perfrct for couple with or without a dog. Lovely walks along the tracks and fields and along the river. The garden with the burn running through it is a real bonus, with regular visits from an abundance of birds and squirrels......even a red one! On arrival we were instantly pleased by the appearance & its stunning location. Stepping thru the front door & turning into the lounge we both said Wow. The cottage was lovely and peaceful to stay in. It had everything we needed and even had larger drinking glasses for beer which the majority of cottages that we stayed in did not have. The kitchen . Absolute gem of a cottage. secluded down a dead end lane so only minimal vehicles passing. clean, tidy and had everything you could possible need. peace and tranquility at its best. Brook running down beside the cottage and fields all around. bundles of wildlife too. we would definitely return and recommend ( in fact we would live here!! lol )

Wonderful spacious comfortable cottage in a great peaceful location with great countryside views. Our dog loved running around the grass garden. The well equipped cottage has everything you need. The nearby South Ayrshire coastline is stunning, we particularly enjoyed the visit to the picturesque harbour village Port Patrick, well worth the drive.

Professors Cottage is the place for perfect relaxation, the accommodation garden and burn accesses from the garden offered privacy peace and quiet. 1st holiday with our dog and this sets the bar very high. Beautiful countryside walks and fantastic views and sunsets. Will return in the future.

Lovely, very well equipped and very comfortable cottage with generous gardens including a stream and wooded area. The cottage is remote from other properties (maybe 1/4 mile from the nearest) so is very quiet and private - a lovely getaway. Professors Cottage is lovely clean and well equipped. Great for walks or just sit in the back garden and let nature come to you, with red squirrels, woodpeckers, deer and losof different birds. I would recommend for a nice relaxing holiday.

This was the 2nd time to Professors cottage for us and again it was brilliant, the location,position and feeling inside is just fantastic. We would love to see it in the summer, but as we have a holiday home in Wales we spend our time there. I love the log burner, and the lounge is very cosy on a windy/stormy night like we just had.
