Luxurious quirky cottage perfect for a romantic getaway. Located in a picture postcard village setting with wood burner and enclosed garden, within walking distance to the beautiful town of Melrose.

Treat your significant other to a sumptuous stay at this enticing, single-storey cottage at Newstead, 1.5 miles from Melrose, in the Scottish Borders. Lace up your walking boots and head off on excursions through your scenic surroundings. Wander into Melrose, birthplace of the Rugby Sevens, to browse in fascinating independent shops and enjoy romantic meals out. Return to the one-bedroom cottage to relax together by a roaring wood burner or to bask out in the fresh Scottish air and sunshine of the garden.

Stroll into this traditional, stone Scottish home to find ground-floor level accommodation and country house-style interiors worthy of a glossy magazine. From the hall, make your way through into the gorgeous, open-plan lounge/kitchen diner, with its revealed stone fireplace housing the wood burner. Spend cosy evenings in here together, watching your favourite programmes on the Smart TV, cooking and chatting together then dining on mouth-watering homecooked meals while the fire crackles gently in the background. Take your holiday novel into the snug to relax here for a while instead if you fancy a few quiet moments to yourself.

At the end of each relaxing day spent at the cottage, or each fun adventure out in this beautiful corner of Scotland, run yourself a bath in the elegant, roll-top bath within the bedroom and then wallow in the bubbles for a while before laying your head in the comfortable, king-size bed. Find an en-suite WC here too.

Make the most of the pretty garden by dining outside as often as possible. Pour yourself a glass of chilled wine in the evening and then wander out to light the BBQ. Amble down to the fenced-off stream to look for wildlife. Those with cycles can request space to store them. Parking is on the road, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pack a picnic and walk for almost 2 miles from the cottage to Eildon Hill. This mount is over 420m high and is often pluralised to Eildon Hills because it actually features three peaks. Take in the far-reaching views from up here.

Wander round the ruins of Melrose Abbey, about 1 mile from your base. This magnificent place was so loved by Robert the Bruce that he chose to make it his final resting place. Take a 4-mile walk to Abbotsford, a 19th-century country house that was built as the home of novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott.

Drive 13 miles into Kelso to browse in its shops, spend time at the farmers’ market and visit Kelso Abbey. You can also visit the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum here or watch the horse racing at the market town’s racecourse.

Visit Mellerstain House, approximately 10 miles from the cottage. This stately home was designed by Scottish architect Robert Adam. Explore the impressive house and amble through 100 acres of parkland, featuring Italianate terraces and a scenic lake.

Floors Castle, 13 miles away, is also worth visiting. Dating back to 1721, this historic property encompasses a Victorian walled garden and magnificent woodland.

The cottage was beautifully clean and well decorated and the coffee and biscuits a nice touch. It was also lovely to have vases of fresh flowers in the hall and lounge. Our only real problem was the arrangements for bathing and showering. Being in our seventies we found we were neither athletic nor agile enough to get in and out of the bath, even tRead moreo use the shower, which sprayed water all over the bedroom floor (despite our best efforts to contain it) and which needed a lot of mopping up! Beautifully furnished and equipped, great location. I know having the bath in the bedroom is having a moment right now, but it's still weird!

Lovely cottage flat. Very clean and beautifully decorated, as well as being extremely well equipped. Great location for walks from the door, with loads to see on the way. The bathing facilities were poor. The bath was two small to use as i am 6ft 2 in tall. When i used the shower attachment I then had to spend up to thirty minutes cleaning and drying the bath room floor area. The sink washing area needs a floor mat and a rail or hook to retain a towel. This was a stylish and spotlessly clean cottage flat. Hall, bedroom furniture and kitchen were very well presented. The only real problem was the lack of a shower room. Getting in and out of a deep bath was a bit tricky for folk as mature as we are! Great location - walkable distance to Melrose.
