The magnificent Loch Katrine stretches for 8 miles, and from the nearby pier you can take a trip across the loch on the Sir Walter Scott Steamship. Loch Katrine has inspired poets including Wordsworth and Coleridge, and was the inspiration for Walter Scott’s famous poem, The Lady of the Lake. More recently, the loch has been used as a location for the popular TV series Outlander. To the north is Glengyle (3 miles), the birthplace of Rob Roy. The majestic Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is ideal for a range of outdoor pursuits with numerous tracks and trails which are perfect for keen cyclists and walkers of all abilities. Heading south-east, the pretty village of Aberfoyle (11.5 miles) nestles in the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and has some delightful places to eat and drink as well as the popular Scottish Wool Centre which tells the story of wool from sheep to shop, with demonstrations of spinning and sheepdog herding, as well as popular dog and duck shows. The 18-hole heathland Aberfoyle Golf Club (12.5 miles) was designed by James Braid in 1890, and offers some superb views across the national park. Loch Ard (7.5 miles) hosts a range of activities including water sports, fishing and a sculpture trail. The property is set in a secluded part of the Highlands, with a local lochside cafe just a few metres away, as well as a good pub within easy reach (4 miles) and the nearest shops in Aberfoyle.
