This former fisherman’s cottage is set in the heart of the coastal town of Cullen, steps from the shore. It’s just the place for a romantic getaway, whether the waves thunder or the sea twinkles.

Nestled in the Seatown area among other houses from the original fishing settlement, this cottage has been refurbished with a modern style yet retains many delightful period features such as the deep-set windows, rustic doors, and beamed ceilings. The comfortable lounge area has a cosy wood burner and a great rocking chair perfect for curling into with a magazine as well as sofas and armchairs. There’s a dining table that connects the living space to the sleek galley kitchen where an electric oven and hob plus microwave and dishwasher makes eating in a pleasure, with plenty of counter space too. The smart white-tiled bathroom is downstairs off the entrance hallway and has a shower over the bath. Stairs lead from the living room up to a lovely double bedroom in the eaves with windows on both sides. Wake up to the sound of the waves washing onto the sand and the seagulls calling, before taking breakfast outside in the small side garden with views out over Cullen Bay.

  • 1 double bedroom on first floor with sloping ceiling
  • Downstairs bathroom with shower-over-bath and WC

The house is less than 50 metres from sandy Cullen Beach, and it's a few metres along to the harbour for boat trips into the bay, and a variety of water sports. The village centre is 400 metres around the corner from the house with a range of shops and cafes where you can sample the tasty local delicacy Cullen Skink – a potato and smoked haddock creamy soup that the village has become famous for. Cullen Golf course is half a mile along the coast path, and you can continue along the grassy path right to the impressive Fiddler's Bow Rock on the headland. For a change of scene, return back via pretty Portknockie village and follow the disused railway line back to Cullen over the towering viaduct with spectacular views over the village, sea and to Bin of Cullen. Look out for the famous Moray Firth dolphins which are regular visitors to the bay. Any keen hikers wishing to conquer the hill can walk straight from the house to the summit, which is about an 8-mile round trip, or park up near the top and climb up and back down in about 3.5 miles. Don't miss a stop at the Cullen Bay Hotel on the way back, for a bowl of soup, or a well-deserved pint with more amazing sea views.

What a beautiful well cared for cottage. The owners provided everything we needed for a self catering break. Great accommodation in a great location. Great location to explore the area and play great golf courses even in the winter. We had great food in the Royal Oak, Lindas fish and chips and the local Chinese takeaway. Would recommend the walk from Cullen to Portnockie.
