A dog-friendly retreat near the NC500 route, ideal for couples seeking a luxurious break in the Highlands. Close to a gorgeous beach and plenty to see in the local area.

Located on a farm near the village of Nigg, this lodge is ideally placed for those looking to explore what the Highlands has to offer. Numerous sandy beaches can be found nearby, including Portmahomack and Balintore, and there are plenty of coastal walks and trails in the area. There is also a small seasonal ferry that runs from Nigg to Cromarty, so if you are looking to cut your drive time to the Black Isle and Inverness then it is well worth taking advantage of. The nearby town of Tain is home to Glenmorangie Distillery as well as a golf course, and further north the town of Dornoch with its various cafes, gift shops and the beach is a must-visit.

The lodge is accessed via the glass entrance door to the front, which leads into an open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining area. The focal point of the room is definitely the cosy wood burner in the lounge, where there is also a Smart TV, Bluetooth speaker and binoculars have been provided for when you are keen to do some dolphin spotting from the comfort of the cabin. The dining area consists of a breakfast bar that seats four people and beautifully divides the lounge and kitchen sections. The kitchen itself is compact yet contains everything you could need during your stay, including an electric oven and hob, combi microwave oven, fridge/freezer, Nespresso coffee machine and dishwasher. A welcome pack is provided for guests, and your dog will not miss out on getting a small gift too. The king-size bedroom has been tastefully furnished and decorated, with robes provided for guests. The shower room with WC and washbasin contains toiletries for guests, with nice touches to enhance your stay including an anti-mist mirror and automatic light.

Outside, the decked garden area contains garden furniture and a firepit, as well as a glorious bubbling hot tub that guests are sure to love. Guests are provided with non-glass items for use in the hot tub, so you can enjoy a glass of prosecco whilst you enjoy the spectacular sea views from the tub. Parking for up to two cars is available at the lodge. The cliff edge is some distance away from the property and is fenced off for extra peace of mind, but please ensure dogs are supervised at all times as there is also livestock on the farm all year round. From the isolated and peaceful Shetland Islands in the north to the thriving border towns and cities in the south, across wild mountains and serene lochs, and encompassing over 700 islands, Scotland’s rich and dramatic landscape simply must be seen to be appreciated. Scotland is home to the ten highest mountains in the UK – including Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak – and is bordered by three seas, offering epic scenery unlike any other you may have seen.

Whether you choose to explore the Highlands, lowlands or islands, lovers of the great outdoors will be thrilled by the stunning Scottish landscapes where some of the rarest UK wildlife can be glimpsed, including golden eagles, dolphins and whales. Take a road trip on the North Coast 500, Scotland’s version of Route 66, to experience the sheer beauty of the land’s wilderness or, as Scotland is the home of golf, either tee off at one of the 550 courses across parkland, heathland and links courses.

Scotland is also a land of unique culture where the people are renowned for their incredible warmth and hospitality. Experience the peaceful Isle of Lewis where Scots Gaelic is widely spoken, or immerse yourself in the cosmopolitan cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen which are vibrant with thriving arts scenes, delicious restaurants and bustling nightlife. And no trip to Scotland is complete without exploring the castles and distilleries: learn about clan rivalries or bloody battles amongst 13th-century battlements or try a taste of Scotland itself during a tour of one of the 120 whisky distilleries. Pure Scottish culture in a glass.

With so many beautiful places to visit and things to experience, a break to Scotland should not be missed. Our fantastic Scottish holiday cottages will ensure a truly memorable getaway. Whether it’s a dog-friendly countryside cottage for two, or a vast and resplendent castle for the entire clan on a tranquil island, we have a holiday in Scotland to suit everyone.
