Enjoy a luxurious family holiday in this stunning historic period house with wonderful mature gardens, summer house, heated kennels with run, and a wood burner perfect for those cooler evenings.

Enjoying a modern take on a classic soul, this ten-person holiday home in Aberdeenshire has everything you could need and more for a luxury escape. Bathed in splendour amongst rolling Scottish countryside, it is the perfect retreat for those looking for a breath of fresh air. Only 2 miles from the picturesque village of Tarves and 2.5 miles from the 18th-century Haddo House with its 240-acre country park, lose yourself to a life less ordinary and enjoy this absolute gem of a property filled with history and surrounded by nature.

A glorious detached property sat amongst mature gardens, this spacious family retreat has year-round appeal. With its traditional stone façade concealing luxury interiors and with superb grounds to explore, the only challenge will be finding your favourite spot. From the beautiful garden summer house to the lovely light-filled kitchen to the fireside sofas, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Take off shoes and coats in the vestibule and come inside; upon entering you will immediately appreciate the period features complemented by modern touches. If your stomach is leading the way, make track towards the fabulous kitchen with its own Aga, where large windows allow light to flood into the room and illuminate the lovely dining area with garden views. Should you wish to put your feet up, you will find a grand lounge boasting further views, cosy seating and all sorts of gadgetry for entertaining nights at home. The real excitement for younger generations, as well as those with a competitive streak, is that there is also a games room with a full-size snooker table and darts board.

From the hall, a few steps lead you down to a shower room with a large shower and WC, whilst the period staircase will take you up to the first floor, complete with a snug area perfect for curling up with a book, a bathroom and three of the property’s five bedrooms: a twin, a double and a king-size. From the first floor another (slightly steeper) staircase leads you to the second and final floor, where you will find the third bathroom and the remaining bedrooms: a spacious twin and a double.

Outside is simply superb with plenty of open, grassy lawn outside perfect for games under the sun, as well as a beautiful summer house which provides a soothing sanctuary come rain or shine. Your dogs even have full access to the property’s fully enclosed heated kennels too, ideal if you want to head out for an hour or two. There is plenty of off-road parking available and a patio area where you can enjoy the last of the day before nightfall.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

A grand manor, this Victorian home has 240 acres of country park to explore, as well as a famous deer park, meaning walkers and wildlife watchers will be able to easily satisfy any cravings for fresh air and rambling paths. There are also a huge number of outdoor activities to have a go at such as biking, fishing and golfing

To top up on supplies and learn more about the local area, Tarves village is 2 miles away and home to its own Heritage Centre. As well as fascinating Edwardian and Victorian pieces, the centre also exhibits some much older artefacts too, including an incredible bronze age sword and flint arrowheads.

If history is your thing, you're in the right place. 11 miles away, you can take a trip to Fyvie Castle on Scotland's magnificent castle trail, while closer to home is Tolquhon Castle (3.5 miles). At 21 miles away, you can also visit Castle Fraser.

For a breath of sea air, Newburgh (10.5 miles) has a lovely sandy beach which is home to a 400-strong colony of seals at the mouth of Ythan River. If you'd prefer to hit the bright lights for a while, the city of Aberdeen is 18.5 miles away and boasts a plethora of restaurants, bars and attractions, including the Aberdeen Maritime Museum and the old fishing village of Footdee.

Very nice house in a lovely private location. the rooms were much larger than expected, we took our family and both sets of parents and never felt crowded. House was very warm, clearly well insulated, very comfortable even in wild weather.

House was in a lovely setting with plenty of room for 5 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs. The games room was a great added extra. It had everything we needed and was a lovely blend of traditional and modern. Despite the house being big it felt warm and cosy and we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Shethin.

An outstanding property. It shows its age in parts which completely adds to the character of the house. It has absolutely everything a family needs and the owners are super helpful. The location is stunning and a great base for exploring the whole of Aberdeenshire. As a family of 9 we had a fabulous time and will definitely visit again.

Lovely old house with some interesting features. Good family accommodation in beautiful, peaceful, rural setting amongst working farms. Great to have a good open garden space to play in and, for less good days, the games room and summer house. Easy access to east coast beaches. Helpful owners.

My partner and I stayed at Shethin House for four weeks and had the the most fantastic time. The setting is perfect - so quiet and private, a stone's throw from Haddo Country Park and yet just a ten minute drive to the massive Tesco in Ellon. The beautiful kitchen, log burner in the living room and table football in the basement were real highlightRead mores. We were both working from home during our stay and found the internet to be perfectly adequate. We hope to return at some point in the future! Hide
