Enjoying a modern take on a classic soul, this ten-person holiday home in Aberdeenshire has everything you could need and more for a luxury escape. Bathed in splendour amongst rolling Scottish countryside, it is the perfect retreat for those looking for a breath of fresh air. Only 2 miles from the picturesque village of Tarves and 2.5 miles from the 18th-century Haddo House with its 240-acre country park, lose yourself to a life less ordinary and enjoy this absolute gem of a property filled with history and surrounded by nature.

A glorious detached property sat amongst mature gardens, this spacious family retreat has year-round appeal. With its traditional stone façade concealing luxury interiors and with superb grounds to explore, the only challenge will be finding your favourite spot. From the beautiful garden summer house to the lovely light-filled kitchen to the fireside sofas, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Take off shoes and coats in the vestibule and come inside; upon entering you will immediately appreciate the period features complemented by modern touches. If your stomach is leading the way, make track towards the fabulous kitchen with its own Aga, where large windows allow light to flood into the room and illuminate the lovely dining area with garden views. Should you wish to put your feet up, you will find a grand lounge boasting further views, cosy seating and all sorts of gadgetry for entertaining nights at home. The real excitement for younger generations, as well as those with a competitive streak, is that there is also a games room with a full-size snooker table and darts board.

From the hall, a few steps lead you down to a shower room with a large shower and WC, whilst the period staircase will take you up to the first floor, complete with a snug area perfect for curling up with a book, a bathroom and three of the property’s five bedrooms: a twin, a double and a king-size. From the first floor another (slightly steeper) staircase leads you to the second and final floor, where you will find the third bathroom and the remaining bedrooms: a spacious twin and a double.

Outside is simply superb with plenty of open, grassy lawn outside perfect for games under the sun, as well as a beautiful summer house which provides a soothing sanctuary come rain or shine. Your dogs even have full access to the property’s fully enclosed heated kennels too, ideal if you want to head out for an hour or two. There is plenty of off-road parking available and a patio area where you can enjoy the last of the day before nightfall.

As well as its own grounds, this family home near Tarves villages is only 2.5 miles from Haddo House. A grand manor, this Victorian home has 240 acres of country park to explore, as well as a famous deer park, meaning walkers and wildlife watchers will be able to easily satisfy any cravings for fresh air and rambling paths. There are also a huge number of outdoor activities to have a go at such as biking, fishing and golfing

To top up on supplies and learn more about the local area, Tarves village is 2 miles away and home to its own Heritage Centre. As well as fascinating Edwardian and Victorian pieces, the centre also exhibits some much older artefacts too, including an incredible bronze age sword and flint arrowheads.

If history is your thing, you're in the right place. 11 miles away, you can take a trip to Fyvie Castle on Scotland's magnificent castle trail, while closer to home is Tolquhon Castle (3.5 miles). At 21 miles away, you can also visit Castle Fraser.

For a breath of sea air, Newburgh (10.5 miles) has a lovely sandy beach which is home to a 400-strong colony of seals at the mouth of Ythan River. If you'd prefer to hit the bright lights for a while, the city of Aberdeen is 18.5 miles away and boasts a plethora of restaurants, bars and attractions, including the Aberdeen Maritime Museum and the old fishing village of Footdee.

We had a lovely long weekend at Shethin house. The property is well equipped with everything you need and more. Located minutes from Haddo House. There was plenty of room for our family and we are already looking to book for a week next year. The hosts were lovely and arranging entry/exit was a breeze. Thanks again for your hospitality!

Absolutely loved this house, perfect for a family of three generations including children from toddler to teenager. Enough space to find a quiet spot, but big enough rooms to all be in one. Shethin was the perfect place for myself, my partner and our dog, Kenya. The house is huge, and comes complete with very large gardens in a private location. The home was very clean, with stunning views out of the windows.
