This rural haven lies at the heart of the Buchanan Castle grounds overlooked by the imposing Ben Lomond, with Scotland''s first National Park on your doorstep for a truly idyllic and romantic retreat.

Set in stunning countryside in the grounds of Buchanan Castle and just 5 miles from Loch Lomond, this attractive and elegant property makes a wonderful holiday retreat for a family or small group of friends. This lovely house has been tastefully decorated with flair and style by the owners to reflect their travels and experiences, and features a range of unique pieces and quirky artworks. With ample space for nine guests, it makes a relaxing base to return to after spending a day exploring the spectacular surrounding area. The property is situated in a lovely location within a vast garden, with an orchard and a burn tumbling past the house.

This bright and spacious property has been imaginatively updated, with a light-filled main living area with huge glass window/doors looking out onto the extensive garden. The house also has plenty of features including traditional wood burners, a piano, attractive light fittings, a spiral staircase, free-standing claw-foot bath and a wall-mounted stag’s head. There are five cosy bedrooms – two with en-suite shower rooms and French doors leading onto Juliet balconies offering delightful views.

Stepping into this beautifully secluded holiday home you will find the spacious and welcoming open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which makes a wonderful central hub for your stay. The lounge is by the floor-to-ceiling glass doors which look out over the south-facing garden, making it a lovely space to chat about the day’s adventures. The charming dining area is delightfully situated in the centre of the area, with the stylishly designed kitchen next to it. The maple and granite kitchen is fully equipped, with a breakfast bar, island unit and French doors opening onto the pretty side garden. The first of the property’s five attractive bedrooms – an en-suite double – is also on the ground floor, and is accessed directly from the living space. Exploring the ground floor further, there’s also a snug TV room with a wood burner, a piano in the corridor, and an airy study for anyone needing to catch up with some work in pleasant surroundings.There’s also a colourful shower room and utility room.

A wrought iron staircase leads from the living area up to the first floor where there are four further bedrooms, two with king-size beds, en-suite shower rooms, sumptuous furnishings and French doors with Juliet balconies. The two other bedrooms – a twin and single – are charmingly furnished and share a stylish bathroom.

Outside there’s plenty of space for children to play. The grounds include a stream, an orchard, mature trees dominated by an enormous fir, and a delightful patio area perfect for enjoying al fresco meals. Play equipment – including swings and trampolines – are also available.

Loch Lomond is the largest freshwater loch in Scotland and offers a fantastic range of activities including sailing, canoeing and waterskiing. The property is close to the historic village of Drymen (1.5 miles) which lies to the west of the Campsie Fells and has a great choice of picturesque pubs, cafes and restaurants, as well as a leisure and sports complex. There are two excellent golf courses within a mile of the house – Buchanan Castle and Strathendrick. This is also a fantastic area for anglers with chances to catch brown and rainbow trout, perch, pike, salmon and roach. Nature-lovers and birdwatchers can head to the RSPB's local reserve (3 miles) to see ospreys, wood warblers and redstarts, or to the Bird of Prey Centre (9 miles) which features everything from little owls to a golden eagle. For horse riders, stables are situated within the Buchanan Castle Estate itself. Other local attractions include the spectacular Balloch Castle and Country Park (8 miles), Dumbarton Castle (14.5 miles) and the majestic Ben Lomond (22 miles) to the north of the loch. The property is also nicely situated for visiting the popular town of Stirling (22 miles) and the thriving city of Glasgow (18 miles).
