This charming, friendly cottage is perfectly made for two, and could be your cosy retreat for touring the Trossachs, Loch Tay and the Loch Lomond area of the Scottish Highlands. It’s a traditional building, lovingly renovated, and sits in the heart of the historic town of Auchterarder, beside the famous golf courses of Gleneagles.

The property itself started life as a stable for the main house a little way away, and was formed into its own dwelling in 1925. It retains a charming sense of character, with sweet country interiors, a beautiful stone facade, and decor that is bright and homely.

Step in to discover the welcoming heart of the home, the open-plan living area. Blending wooden floors and beams with natural decor and pops of colour, and with plenty of light from outside, this space is warm and inviting. The kitchen is just off to the side and has everything you need to make romantic meals for two, then you can enjoy eating at the delightful dining table. The lounge area, with its snug sofas, is the perfect place to read and unwind after a long day of exploring.

Head upstairs to find your bedroom. In the eaves, it enjoys exposed beams and wonderful views of the surrounding area. The bed is a comfy double, ideal for getting a good night’s rest ready for tomorrow.

And outside the property, an eating area on a gravelled terrace gives you the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and an al fresco breakfast before setting out.

The bothy is located up a pedestrian lane just off the main street of Auchterarder, giving you easy walking access to all the independent shops, pubs and restaurants. The town has a rich history (beyond just golf), which you can discover on foot, passing by the classic Perthshire buildings on the longest main street in Scotland. Check out the Innerpeffray Library, or simply enjoy a wee cuppa at one of the delightful tearooms in town.

Just down the road, a few hundred metres away, you'll discover the Auchterarder Golf Club, where you can delight in a quick (or leisurely) round of golf in inspiring scenery. But don't spend all your best swings here, because this is just one of the famous three courses that comprise Gleneagles, where the Ryder Cup has been held. Golf fans and newbies alike will love relaxing in the luxurious Gleneagles Hotel with its two Michelin stars and spa.

Head south for 19 miles to the town of Stirling for more culture, shopping and great eateries. Take a tour of the local history, including Stirling Castle, a stunning crag-top structure and landscaped gardens where Mary Queen of Scots was raised. Or visit the National Wallace Monument, a majestic tower built on the hilltop overlooking the town.

The cottage was nice and cosy, The bed was comfy, the shower was good and everything we needed was there. Auchterader is a superb town, with everything you need for a holiday. There is a good selection of shops and places to eat out (or in). On the doorstep are numerous places for anyone who loves the outdoors. We chose the following for our week -Read more Crieff, Glasgow, St Fillans, Crail, Anstruther - and a visit to the Genturret distillery. Hide

We had a wonderful time at the Bothy, it's cosy and clean, the size was perfect for us (2 humans and 2 dogs). The garden is big and is fully enclosed, a big plus! It is located close to the big cities and many sights in the area, and great for a road trip to Glen Coe and Inverness, too. Kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of working space so weRead more cooked most of our meals there. We felt right at home during our 3 week stay, and will definitely come again when we get the chance! Thank you! Hide

The garden was a sun trap but unfortunately we couldn't leave our two spaniels out to sit in the sun as no gate to keep them safe from the busy main road
