Period cottage located in a private position with splendid valley and castle views. Enjoy cosy romantic nights infront of the roaring wood burner, after a day out exploring the stunning local area.

Romantically located beside the ruins of Drochil Castle, this stone cottage is a lovely countryside bolthole for a couple. The property is set amidst a friendly working farm, where you can help feed the lambs and explore the tracks around the land. The local market town of Peebles is 8.5 miles away, so you can stock up on supplies and enjoy a meal out together, before returning to the cottage.

The property is single-storey, so no stairs for tired feet after a day out walking. Inside, the décor is homely and stylish, the neutral colours and tones of the living spaces complementing the rural surroundings. A highlight of the cottage is the wood burner in the lounge, perfect for chillier evenings.

Leave coats and shoes in the large vestibule at the front of the property, and head into the kitchen/diner to put any clothes in need of a refresh into the washing machine. Prepare dinner together and set the table for a romantic meal. When the plates have been cleared away, use the table to lay out maps and guidebooks to plan your next adventure. In the elegantly decorated lounge, light the fire and curl up on the sofas in front of the Smart TV, with a hot drink or a dram on the coffee table. When it’s time for bed, enjoy a hot shower and then snuggle down in the bright king-size bedroom. Both the lounge and the bedroom also feature handy USB points, so keeping your devices charged is no hassle.

The enclosed garden wraps around the property. In the daytime, dine alfresco and look across to the high walls of the castle, while at nighttime wrap up and sit back to gaze at the stars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 1 bedroom - king-size
  • 1 shower room
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machine
  • Farm activities - guests are welcome to help feed the lambs and explore the farmland through the established tracks

  • Electric and central heating included
  • Ample private enclosed off-road parking
  • Fully enclosed Garden
  • Wi-Fi included

Nearby Peebles is the perfect place for a day out if you don't want to stray too far. Take a stroll together along the banks of the River Tweed and through the park, or visit some of the town's attractions, including a theatre, the Tweeddale Museum and Gallery, and the John Buchan Story Museum. Just outside the town, Kailzie Gardens (11 miles) has a walled garden and woodland to explore, as well as a cafe and seasonal osprey viewing.

For walks and trails amid stunning scenery, the Pentland Hills Regional Park (9 miles) has a variety of routes for all abilities, so make sure to bring your hiking boots. Dawyck Botanic Garden (9 miles) is a must see whether you're an avid gardener or simply love the outdoors and nature at its most beautiful. There are plants and flowers from around the world to marvel at, and there is a cafe and gift shop on site too, so you can spend a leisurely day together in the Scottish sunshine.

The historic market town of Lanark (22 miles) has a range of independents shops and cafes, and a mile away is New Lanark (23 miles), a World Heritage Site where you can discover an 18th-century mill village and wander down to the romantic beauty spot the Falls of Clyde. Scotland's beautiful capital city, Edinburgh, is also only a 21-mile drive from the property.

A warm comfortable cottage and an enclosed garden which was good for the dogs. Lovely welcome pack on arrival to get you started. Peebles a short drive away with some nice shops and coffee shops. The Eastgate cafe is well worth a visit and is reasonably priced. Dog friendly outside if weather is good.
