Declared as Scotland’s first ‘Conservation Village’ in the 1960s, the pretty village of Eaglesham is a delight to discover. Stroll along the Eaglesham Heritage Trail and you’ll learn all about how the 10th Earl of Eglinton had the settlement redeveloped as a new planned village in the mid-18th century, and how the cotton mill here once employed 200 people. Check out the local shops, stop off in one of the tearooms for a sweet treat, or meet the locals over a pint in one of the friendly pubs.

Keen golfers will be delighted with the array of local courses at hand, including Bonnyton Golf Club (2 miles) and the East Renfrewshire Golf Course (5 miles), while horse enthusiasts will adore the facilities on offer at the Kirkton Equestrian Centre and the Busby Equestrian Centre (4.5 miles).

Further afield, head into Glasgow (15 miles) to explore the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s House, and the lively restaurant scene in the city’s West End. Alternatively, you can stroll hand-in-hand along the golden sands of Irvine Beach (26.5 miles), or head to Loch Lomond (43.5 miles) to take a cruise, go mountain biking or take a whisky tour.
