This charming stone-built cottage is superbly located in Morayshire, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ideal for all outdoor pursuits, this is the perfect getaway for a family or friends.

The charming cottage is located just off the square in the picturesque village of Archiestown. The property sleeps six guests and is ideal for large families and groups of friends who enjoy exploring local history and getting out and about in nature. There are some fabulous castles nearby, including Ballindalloch (9 miles), and attractive towns and villages to visit. You’ll also be 22 miles from Moray’s dramatic coastline. After a busy day, return to your cosy cottage to snuggle by the wood burner or dine in the courtyard.

The stone cottage is bursting with character, with exposed stonework and original features throughout. The decor proudly celebrates the property’s heritage and reflects the local landscape, with beautiful tartan soft furnishings and a collection of wildlife artwork.

Enter the cottage into the cosy lounge, where sofas and armchairs are nestled around a wood burner and a Smart TV. This is a lovely place to gather in the evenings, to chat about your day or watch a movie. One of the bedrooms – a double – is located off the lounge and has an en-suite shower room (also accessed from the hallway). The kitchen/diner is a bright, sociable space, with a large dining table set next to a feature stone wall and wood burner, and a kitchen area with everything you need to cater for the group. A staircase leads from the kitchen to a king-size bedroom with a striking stone wall, and a stylish bathroom. The final bedroom, a twin, is reached via the wooden staircase in the lounge. As this room is in the eaves, you may experience restricted head height in some areas.

Outside, a lovely courtyard garden awaits. There is furniture for al fresco dining and the area is fully enclosed, making it perfect for four-legged guests. A parking space for one car can be found to the rear of the cottage, with further parking available in the village square (subject to availability).

The seaside village of Findhorn (23 miles) makes an excellent day out. Here, you’ll find a long stretch of white sand, which is perfect for playing beach games, enjoying picnics, and building sandcastles. The beach is popular with bathers and at low tide, you can take long walks along the sand to Burghead. If you fancy getting out on the water, take a boat trip from the marina to go looking for seals and dolphins off the coast. The village also has a great selection of cosy pubs and cafes.

The Moray coastline is truly breathtaking and, from Findhorn, you can join the long-distance Moray Coast Trail. The 50-mile route runs from the village to Cullen, passing windswept clifftops, dramatic caves, and sandy beaches. The route is split into sections, so you can pick and choose which part of the coast to explore.

History enthusiasts will love the medieval town of Elgin (17 miles). Spend a relaxing afternoon ambling around the evocative ruins of the 13th-century cathedral, before taking a tour of the fascinating 220-year-old woollen mill.

At Ballindalloch Castle (9 miles) you’ll find something for everyone. There are picturesque walking trails, a children’s play area and a whisky distillery. Learn about the castle’s history on a tour of the interiors, followed by a wander amongst the stunning floral displays.

We really enjoyed our stay with friends. The location is excellent for walks and easy short trips. The hotel opposite is excellent. The property is well equipped and lovely and warm. I would really recommend a trip to Cullen - especially on a windy day - great waves and picturesque.

The downstairs toilet all week had a very unfortunate smell to it, which was even commented on by the kids. Appreciate it has a different flush system but was rather unpleasant. Shower could maybe do with an upgrade. Apart from all the above comments, it doesnt take away that this is a beautiful property. Housekeeper just needs to pay closer attentRead moreion to the floors. A very comfortable cottage to use as our base for full week. Might struggle if cottage was at full capacity for 6 people with limited seating in living room. Good location and visited many places nearby: Glenfarclas, Benriach and Macallan Distilleries. Walked to Linn Falls.
